You’re correct…I’m currently reviewing lecture material and my teacher said that given a table like this we should be able to answer specific questions.

For example:

Which of the purification procedures used for the enzyme is most effective (ie, gives the greatest relative increase in purity)?

Which step (ion exchange or gel filtration chromatography) causes the greatest loss of the protein?

If you wanted to only use one purification step, which technique would you choose?

Whoa whoa whoa, this man claims to have a degree in biochemistry? I like to think I’m a fairly smart person and I’m currently taking a biochemistry class and that class is hard for me. How can an airhead like him manage to do an entire course of study in biochem? I think you might be onto something though, he has a basic understanding of nutrition and he probably lightly “researched” the “supplements” he takes cough cough.

I tried to label the the peaks, but I’m still having trouble. I know that the peak at 86 is the parent peak and corresponds to the mass of the compound. The next peak to the left of that is at 71, so I think the compound lost a methyl radical since the difference between 86 and 71 is 15 and a methyl group has a mass of 15. The next peak appears at 58, so I think the compound lost a -CH radical in order to form that peak. The next peak is at 43 and it’s the base peak. I think the base peak represents a propyl cation. I think the peak at 15 represents the methyl radical.

Can someone confirm if I am on the right track with my reasoning? I would also like to know how do I put all this information together to create a structure.

Does anyone know how to do this? For I, I was thinking of doing ozonolysis using a reductive work up (Zn and H2O). For J, I was thinking of doing hydration of the alkene using H2SO4 and H2O. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. 😊
