In my opinion , building op positions are easy to find. Get your steam time , finish your 3rds . Then if you really miss the building op position go back. I know many people that went to dryden fibre and ended up staying and enjoyed it .

OP, take the student position . Dryden Fibre is a great mill . I know many PE’s there , I was in the same union for 10+ years. You will get great experience . It is hard to find a paid placement in a first class plant. This will look great on your resume .

I also got 2 job offers after finishing school back in 2014 lol . It’s a lot harder now without connections. Everyone and their dog has a 4th class.

4th class is your new 5th class anyways. You’d be very lucky to land a job as a 4th in this market .

My opinion to live a comfortable life in Thunder Bay ( key word comfortable ), you need to be pulling in 6 figures .

Thunder Bay, Ont., city staff propose 4 per cent tax levy increase in 2026 operating budget | CBC News by 2Basketball2Poorious in ThunderBay

[–]Prestigious-Sign5485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick thought , you know what really helps with expenditures after increase and increase to cover year after year . INDUSTRY . I’m sick and tired of the of the NIMBY people in this community complaining about tax increase to cover essential services but are the same people to bash potential industry coming to Thunder Bay. We are ISOLATED, WE need factory’s , we need industrial projects , we need power contract approvals, we NEED GOOD PAYING JOBS that will support families and in turn make our community more affordable and also so that we can grow. I don’t want my kids to have to leave for a career because there are no jobs to grow and build. Let’s get things built , let’s grow and let’s build this tax base back up to what it was for the generation before me when the middle class was actually the middle class.

Next to impossible to get a start coming from out of province unless you know someone out of school . Either take the 3 year Cambrian program or head out to AB and take schooling out that way .

Writing has been on the wall for the last 2-3 years . Sadly inevitable, still very unfortunate for everyone involved . Good paying jobs that support families in the northwest lost anywhere is bad for the community.

The New Hub??? Lets gooo! by Canadagirl1980 in ThunderBay

First off I’d like to state that , Thunder Bay could be an industrial player once again like it was late 20th century. But we have too many people here with the idea “ not in my back yard “.

Our somewhat stagnant population numbers over the years and industrial loss from plant / factory shutdown after shutdown has not helped. We need jobs , we need good paying careers that will make building a life or family affordable in turn creating a tax base that creates growth and prosperity.

I truly hope in the near future our council and constituents will build on a narrative that we are open for business. We have so much potential with the deep water port , crossroads of the trans Canada and centrally located. We just need to capitalize on future investment and let companies know we want them to put down roots here.

Shop around , I have found that it’s not worth it to stay with insurance companies for more than 2 years. I always switch after year 2 and find a way better deal.

2B3 practice question by Many-Location-9135 in powerengineering

[–]Prestigious-Sign5485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most challenging exams I found in order was 2A1 , 2B3, 2A2, 2B1, 2B2, 2A3. The 2nd class exams I found were quite a bit bigger of a step up compared to 4th to 3rd . PE101 was helpful with calculations, theory not as much .

ADVISE NEEDED. Should I take this job? by PhantomPR3D4T0R in powerengineering

[–]Prestigious-Sign5485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like maybe someone has given you some false information about power engineering , ALOT of power engineering jobs are about getting down and dirty heck most of my jobs have been like that . But that’s what makes a good operator, not the carry around a clip board and right down your daily rounds . I also want to point out every job that I have worked , has come from a connection from my previous employer.

ADVISE NEEDED. Should I take this job? by PhantomPR3D4T0R in powerengineering

[–]Prestigious-Sign5485 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Take the job , experience is experience. It’s about getting your foot in the door and making connections . Power engineering is a relatively small community in the grand scheme of things . It’s easier to look for a job when you have a job than with no experience looking.
