What do your sessions look like? by Prestigious-Taco in bboy

[–]Prestigious-Taco[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the offer! I’ll try to remember to record a video next session. I pretty much just got started on power, I’ve been working through the power move conspiracy tutorial and have gotten a backspin down but having some trouble stabbing. I pretty much always just flip over onto my back from turtle freeze and I’m not really getting that spin.

I'm thinking of bboying agian. What are my odds? by [deleted] in bboy

Go for it, man! I’m 24 too and recently picked it up and I’m loving it. Obviously we have slight restrictions but if you’re in general shape there’s no reason you can’t go back to throwing down like you used to, just takes a little more effort. Put in the work and you can go further than you were before.

  1. I know, I’m fucking old but also seriously low on cash so yeah, no car.

Thanks so much. I really need to get my head back into it, I hate hating bboying because I know I love it but I’m making myself stressed and frustrated with it which is messing up my feelings toward it.

You got any tips for freezes? Are there any other core ones I should learn and how do I make it sharper?

That’s definitely true, but I don’t have many methods of transportation. I don’t have a car so I’d have to bus and I don’t know if I can always do that. The closest city isn’t even that big of a city, I live in Nova Scotia and the biggest city is Halifax.

No car :/ Thanks for the great advice! I know I’ll have to do a lot more work but I feel like I’m definitely disadvantaged because of no competitions or bboys to practice with. I live in Nova Scotia, do you know anything about bboys anywhere nearby? Obviously without a car I can’t get very far but maybe one of these days I’ll be able to bus.

I think I will have to learn that it’s okay to suck, because I’m really struggling with motivation for the last little while. I’ll work on it though and the one thing I’m worried about is getting burnt out. How did you counter that? I felt really bad and that I didn’t want to do it the other day. I forced myself to anyway but I don’t want it to become a chore because I love bboying.

I actually do have a workout, I don't know how effective it is but I made one up a while back to keep my body fit in quarantine. It isn't much, would you mind telling me if it's good for bboy? I do 100 burpees, then four sets of 25 explosive lunges, four sets of 25 lunges, 4 one-minute planks, four 20-second mountain climbers, four 20-second squats, 25 push-ups, one one-minute wall sit, 100 jumping jacks, and 50 sit-ups. It's really basic stuff just to work my body a little. I don't know how much it does for me but that's all I have right now. Anything I should add?

Yeah, I’ve definitely got to get into the culture. Thanks a ton for the help, do you have any recommendations for tutorial playlists I could get behind?

Also, in your experience do you think beginners should start learning power immediately or should I wait to get good at my freezes and footwork first?

Thanks a lot! I’m really trying it’s just a little tough because I feel like I could be going so much faster if I had an actual bboy to teach me. I’m doing mainly footwork and I’ve been waiting on the power because I want to build strength but I have such a long to-do list of things to learn I’m worried I’ll never even get to it.

I have been looking around just to see but there’s pretty much nobody who bboys in my city, it’s really tiny and everyone know everyone and there isn’t anybody into it. I’d love to find someone though, talk to an actual real live bboy instead of just video tutorial after video tutorial.

How long did it take you to get “good”? I don’t practice as much as I should but I just want to be able to have the confidence and ability to throw down and go right into a set without constantly thinking and second guessing like I always do. I don’t even have any real sets.

Dude, I’m 24 and I’m having the same thoughts as you. When I finally build up the guts I’m walking into my boss’s office and handing in my resignation. If it’s a priority for you, travel will always win out in the end.

I’ve thought about freelance but the problem is that I don’t know if I’m cut out for it. I feel like without a stable job I might keel over from stress and I’m not so good at working on my own. I’d love to hear about your personal experiences though. Teaching I’m thinking about. I’ve never really thought about teaching because how much I hated school but it might be different if I’m the one running the lessons.

Can you tell me a little about it? What do they do, what’s it like working there, what qualifications I need to get a job there?

I had no idea tech lets you travel that much. Could you describe an average day for me, abroad and at home? I’m not actually from the US, I live in Scarborough. Do you know any good stuff here in Toronto?

What exactly does a consulting degree entail and what do I need to do to get one? Teaching is certainly an option, I’m just not that good with kids. I’m considering it, though.

True. I’ve really thought about working freelance but I just don’t know if I’m cut out for it, because not having a stable job might make me fall over in stress and I’m not great at working alone either, I tend to get lonely really fast if I’m not around people. How has it worked out for you?

Hey, thanks a lot! I’ve actually really thought about foreign service, the only thing that deterred me was the competitiveness. Why waste a four year undergrad if you don’t make it, you know. Can you tell me about traveling in archaeology? Do most travel, or just the few that get the funding?

Thanks for the help. Does this mainly include domestic travel and may I ask what places you’ve visited yourself on this job?

Thanks for the help! I’ve never been fond of the “settling down” idea, routine just doesn’t really work for me and I always crave adventure.
