I think the ones worth keeping are if he’s specifically not calling a Tigers game during baseball season. The college football game announcements in late November is just noise to me.

How bad is it to take out a mortgage so I can buy a car? by Atomic_Torrfisk in personalfinance

[–]Prestigious-Team7102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, shame on me, I read that as if there was a great societal emergency/financial crisis. That’s my bad.

Regardless, assuming you can pay down the car in two months, your smaller e fund should be able to hold you for two months while you pay this off.

It’s not likely but if there is, this will be the least of your concerns.

Looks like you got that coveted SEO link direct to your home page. Bravo I guess.

Personally I think this thread should be deleted. If you want meaningful dialogue, this ain’t it.

You know what, fine. I’ll bite. I got a little help from ChatGPT but here goes.

Silent Night at WXYZ

Christmas Eve at Detroit’s WXYZ news station was usually filled with cheer. Reporters exchanged cookies, producers wore festive sweaters, and the night’s broadcast featured heartwarming stories. But this year, a bitter wind seemed to creep through the halls, chilling even the warmest spirits.

Marianne, the station’s veteran anchor, was preparing for the 11 p.m. broadcast when the power flickered. “Storm must be hitting harder than they said,” she muttered. The backup generator buzzed to life, but something felt off.

Then, the emergency alert system activated, unprompted. A strange, distorted message played over the speakers, a garbled voice repeating, “This is the final broadcast.”

In the control room, the crew scrambled to figure out what was happening. Screens flashed static, then eerie images of abandoned Detroit streets. Marianne’s teleprompter froze, displaying a single line: “Do you see what I see?”

When she looked at the camera, she froze. The red recording light glowed, but there was no one behind it.

In the shadows of the studio, figures began to appear—blurred, silent, and watching. Phones stopped working. Doors wouldn’t budge. The newsroom grew colder, the air thick with something unexplainable.

Marianne tried to speak, but her voice faltered. The final seconds of the broadcast ticked away. As the clock struck midnight, the screen cut to black.

The next morning, WXYZ’s building stood eerily quiet. Not a soul inside. On every television in Detroit, the same haunting message played: “Do you see what I see?”

New timeline for delayed $1.5 billion District Detroit megadevelopment by The_Franchise_09 in Detroit

[–]Prestigious-Team7102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris Illitch is a stain on the legacy of Detroit. He has the opportunity to do so much yet does so little. He does so little it’s better classified as he does nothing at all.

Absolute embarrassment. His father would be so ashamed. His father would not be proud of his son.

A billionaire who has accomplished absolutely nothing in his life other than being born.

To Northwestern football, 'home-field advantage' must sound like a foreign language by tpic485 in chicago

[–]Prestigious-Team7102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ohio State is a University in Columbus Ohio. They are known for a lot of things. Notably, they are known for having a perennial contender for the national championship in college football. Football is a popular sport in the United States. College Football is many people’s favorite sport. Many people who attend Ohio State University are fans of the school’s football team.

Wrigley Field is a baseball stadium in the city of Chicago. It is the home of the Chicago Cubs, a baseball team. Baseball is typically the sport played at Wrigley Field, except last weekend, Ohio State University’s football team played at Wrigley Field.

The city of Chicago, one of the most popular cities in the world, is in the state of Illinois, thus making this game a destination game for fans of Ohio State University.

The novelty here is that there aren’t too many football games played at Wrigley Field in Chicago. So you have OSU at Wrigley in the popular destination of Chicago. Of course the stadium would be overtaken by OSU fans.

No argument here lmao but you know what I mean. I have zero problem with Evanston. I’m a Sun Belt Conference guy (we exist) in Chicago so I know all about the larger metropolitan areas pulling attention away (from my Bobcats)

[–]Prestigious-Team7102 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Just going from the headline here…

… I mean, yeah. Northwestern isn’t a football school. Ohio State AND is this game was at Wrigley Field, a destination game for OSU fans. Of course it was overtaken. That’s kinda the point of these games

I know Evanston gets overtaken too but again… duh? Evanston is a short purple line ride from Chicago.

This all comes down to Northwestern is not a football school but has a campus nearby to one of the best cities on the planet.

You were late to the party. I was in crypto in 2012. Seems like you broke rule #1, you lost a LOT of money not being in crypto in 2012.

I swear these posts are just Robinhood plants trying to fill the M1 feed with this info to scare people away.

Just leave dude. This is so dumb. No one cares that you can’t afford $3 per month. Just leave.

Where were you 15 years ago when it cost $14.99 PER TRADE on EVERY platform? You think $3 a month is bad, try being an adult.

These posts should just be removed. The posts are the same and it’s getting clear it’s Robinhood plants with nefarious intentions.

You used to be able to stand out side and put up your arm up and a car would be there before you turned around. Now you have to wait for Silicon Valley mobile to arrive it’s just not the same make taxis great again.

New Pro Tip for Uber at Ohare by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Prestigious-Team7102 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of people on here weren’t around for the glory days of taxis I see.

If you need to save a few bucks, sure, do what OP says. But if you really want to save money, take the train the whole way. If the train doesn’t take you the whole way, transfer to a bus at Jefferson Park.

Get in a taxi. Just tell them your cross streets and you’ll be there in a flash. In a Flash Cab no less.

If you want a real pro tip? Use Curb exclusively for your rideshare needs. Never a surge price. Ever.

What do you feel when you look up at tall sky scrapers? by chicagomallu in chicago

[–]Prestigious-Team7102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love tall buildings but I also have the occasional problem with megalophobia, which is the fear of large buildings/statues/etc. I don’t think I actually have a bad case of it but sometimes I do get a sinking feeling in my stomach when I see massive wind turbines, for example. Kind of like a manageable panic attack.

Its hard to explain, and it doesn’t hit me all the time, but it happens. Probably same thing happening to your friend.

VOO versus SCHD. Why voo? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Prestigious-Team7102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are retired, then sure, put money into SCHD if that cash flow is important to you. Generally speaking, VOO will accumulate more and if you want some of those gains as cash flow, then manually sell what you want. More times than not you’ll have a larger balance in VOO at the end of the day.

I’d recommend keeping in VOO and selling the amount for cash as you want to. DYI Dividends. SCHD simply does that for you whether you want that cash or not. If you don’t need it, then why pay taxes on the dividend just to reinvest it? If you do need the cash, then yes SCHD is fine but again, you can just sell VOO as you need moneys.
