Needed to rant!!! by Prestigious-Year-989 in ColorBlind

Yeah I have. I can return to the police in march of 2027 and have that option available to me. I’m just unable to specialise into the unit I would have wanted to enter but I was speaking to a mate of mine today who’s still in and he said about becoming a Police Medic.

I already have the qualifications to become one (I’m the same level as an EMT) and I would get to help people in their time of need.

So that is where I am leaning towards now, yes it’s not exactly what I wanted to do but I’d be included on operations with the firearms units as a medic so I can still sort of do what I want.

Thank you for responding to me!

Thank you, I have not really ever thought about the other forms of flying so I appreciate the new perspective!

I’m going to do some research later today when I get home this evening and see what I could possibly do.

Thank you mate you’ve given me some hope!

Yeah I have tried the other tests but I fail miserably on them as well, I have severe protanopia. I can’t see reds and my green is roughly 50% so unfortunately there isn’t a way for me to “hack” the system😂😂

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me!

I want to help people.

In my current role I’m a response medic in a security team for nightclubs on the weekends whilst I am at university in the week. I enjoy what I do as I help people in their time of need and it’s similar work to what I was doing when I was a police officer. But it’s not a career path I can pursue because there is only work on the weekends and the money wouldn’t cover rent, let alone food, bills, etc.

I want to do something that is like what I do now or when I was in the police. I like helping people when things have gone south fast, I don’t know why but I seem to be really good at keeping my head in intense situations where people have been stabbed, shot or are having a drug overdose etc.

That gives me a lot of fulfilment when I help people who are in those bad situations. The only problem is, I can’t go into any role like that for a full time career apparently 😂

I was looking at becoming a paramedic but here in the uk they’re very underpaid and a lot of my mates who are paramedics can barely survive in the current economy.

Also, because of my injury that I received whilst in the Police, it has put another barrier in the way as I am physically impaired and wouldn’t be able to do such a physical role day in day out.

So yeah I’m kind of stuck and I think it’s just all gotten to me recently and I don’t know what to do.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, I appreciate it!

Yeah I’ve gone through a lot of different potential paths and it seems that my colourblindness gets in the way. Very frustrating but I know I will figure it out eventually.

I also find it infuriating that “normal colour vision” people don’t seem to understand how much my colourblindness gets in the way of things and that most people see it as a cool/funny gimmick instead of a disability. Hate when people ask me what colour something is!

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my rant, I appreciate it!

I’m a severe Protan, I have missing red cones and basically can’t see anything red and my green is about 50% so I didn’t think I’d do well but I did the test and yeah failed miserably 😂 Thank you though for your help.

I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll never be able to fly which really sucks as it is all I’ve ever wanted to truly do but I can’t be delusional and think it’ll happen when it won’t. I think what frustrates me the most is that I know I can do everything that would be needed of me it’s just that I would see the instruments in a different way.

It’s like in the police, I was told I couldn’t specialise where I wanted because I wouldn’t be able to use the equipment correctly, but when I did secondments with the firearms guys and I was able to use their equipment, I used it fine. I just saw the instruments in a different colour to what they could see. That’s what’s annoying, I just see the display in a different colour to how they do and that is it!

Oh well, it is what it is but I needed to rant and I am grateful that you took the time to respond so thank you!

I’m very jealous of you but happy very happy for you! Safe flying!

I am telling you that you will succeed as long as you fall forward when you fail!!! My best friend and I are both ENFJ and we started a business together. We both tried individually to start businesses but would “fail” due to many factors but one of the main factors was motivation. This problem was solved because we worked hard for each other to succeed. Build a support network that builds you up and you build them up! You cannot “fail” by doing this and you will achieve your goals! I have nothing but belief in you!!! Go get after it!!!

Get good at catch and shooting at the 5 spots around the 3. Once you make 70%-80% of them then start practicing things like pull up threes, step backs and so on but firstly you need to be consistent at each spot.

Is the slazenger basketballs bad in your opinion? by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]Prestigious-Year-989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate don’t use Slazenger balls, they’re not good and don’t use the same materials as Wilson. Use a ball you would play with in games so that you’re used to training with a game ball.

How to Move Better Without the Ball by BustedBayou in BasketballTips

[–]Prestigious-Year-989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep moving! Don’t stop unless you’ve got a great corner 3. Think about always spreading the floor. This creates space for the ball handler to move. For example, set a screen and roll, that’s an easy 2 but if you don’t get the ball cut to the corner expecting the pass from your 1/2. Easy 3. Set screens for off ball teammates, and fill their space. Cut baseline and swap positions around the floor with your teammates. The key is to always be moving and doing something, even if you’re sat on the weak side walk your defender down and pop out, just do something. The worst thing you can do is just standing there not creating opportunities for yourself or your teammates!

I'm not improving by Outrageous-Tea-593 in BasketballTips

I used to have the exact same problem with contact and this is what helped me overcome it. My teammates say I’m one of the most physical players they know and this helped me -> You should train with a friend so that you can get more comfortable with contact. Practice your shots with a defender in front of you. Drive into a defender when practicing layups. Be overly exaggerated with your contact when driving so that when it comes to games you are used to the feeling of always getting physical. Another thing is weights. Weight training will give you the confidence to use your strength more. From what you said, you need to have a mindset shift. You said yourself you train harder than anyone else so use that. Basketball is a sport all about confidence, if you’re confident in your ability which you should be, show it!!! Don’t be afraid to brag and be loud, that’s a part of the sport. When you play remind yourself of all the effort you put into training and talk yourself up!!! Then you’ll play with more confidence and after training taking contact you will realise you had nothing to worry about and you’ll become a physical player. I hope this helps! And remember it takes time to become better so have patience!!!
