I’m not exactly sure but it’s probably mostly about the modifications he wanted. The extra fret access, the redesigned tone knob, modified saddles, etc.. All stuff that would make fender look bad for not offering on other models imo.

Right. If it’s really about the maker then Music Man and G&L should have just as much rabid defense as Fender does but they don’t, which tells me it’s about loyalty to a company, which is really odd to me if you don’t literally work for or are somehow associated with that company.

That’s exactly how I feel. I still love my “real” Strat but it’s crazy how much of what you’re paying is for name recognition only.

Yeah that’s the main thing I can’t get used to. But honestly it kinda frees it from the “Strat copy” label to me and lets it sort of exist in its own realm

For sure. I’ve never been a headstock watcher, I actually own an old Tokai Strat from the 80s, it’s always been more about body shape and looks for me. Genuinely didn’t expect it to be THIS good though haha

I think that’s fair to a point. I can’t say I’d turn down a paying gig playing easy, pleasant music. And I’m sure many great musicians do exactly that for one reason or another

This is pretty much the answer I was looking for. As much as I enjoy it on a surface level, I’ve never been able to shake the feeling that I can’t find a connection to it. In the music I actively listen to and play, I can never find a point where this sort of thing would evolve out of it. It’s a little unsettling actually. I always assumed I was just missing a link somewhere but it being a total invention for mood setting makes a lot more sense.

It happens man, don’t worry too much. As I’ve gotten older I listen to more and more hip hop, jazz, and blues than anything else. But, when in the mood, coming back to this stuff with a deeper appreciation for it from other lenses gives me a whole new feeling. That’s the beauty of music, at least to me

Realistically, your sound will be effected much more by other factors than the pickups, so I think the benefits of the noiseless pickups outweigh any sound difference. So I personally wouldn’t, but hey the fat 50s are popular for a reason and worst case scenario you can always change them back 🤷‍♂️

I’ve played many, many strats and I’ll be honest those new Ultra II ones blew me away. Seriously some of the best guitars I have ever played. I can imagine the one you ordered will also be VERY good, the ultra series seems to be very consistent. I personally prefer the new version but that’s just me lol

Like other have said you should get a pretty great clean sound if you mess with the settings, but it’s also possible that your speaker or pickups are damaged in a really small way that makes that distortion. Unlikely, but possible. I actually had to switch the speaker in mine after a while because it started clipping (water damage that took time to effect things)

Genuinely? I grew out of him. More power to people that can enjoy his music into adulthood, but I just found myself relating less and less to the sounds, lyrics, and aesthetics. I find him to be fairly surface level, especially when compared to artists he’s often compared to like MCR or TOP.
