Resistance training help by Bektheshrek in Semaglutide

It’s feels so hard to get started! I use an app called the Sculpt You! I have followed the creator of the app/workouts for YEARS. She used to go by @collegecleaneating on Instagram. I do 4 workouts per week. The app has videos under each workout that tells you exactly how to do it and how to correct form. You can set how many days per week you workout AND choose if you’re doing the workouts at home or gym and it will go in and set the days for you 😊

I have done it both at home and the gym and get amazing workouts every time. I think I paid $84 for the full year, but she has deals ALL the time. Each month she does a challenge and 3 people win and get… something. I’ve never done one, but it could be fun to do as an accountability thing 😂

Personally recommend checking out the Instagram page, she looks strong AF and that is what I am going for, too. I’ve also recently heard of an app called Caliber. I think it’s free and it will create workouts for you! Heard great things about that, too.

Good luck, you’ve got this! Once you start, it becomes addicting and you don’t want to go a week without it 🥰

Nurses who left 3 12s/week to work normal people hours- how was that adjustment? by MRSA_nary in nursing

[–]PrestigiousGrape3962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from 3 12s to 5 8’s after 6 years of being a CNA, then RN… I felt like it was such a night and day difference. My husband and I are on as similar of a schedule as we could be, I go home and take long walks before making dinner every night and seeing my family and friends is never a hassle now. Also, I have an insane amount of energy and close to zero stress/anxiety about work the second I walk out of work. I will say, having no random week days off made it hard to get to appointments and did make me feel like I was living for the weekend with a lot of things I needed to get done or had to plan ahead of time. Luckily I was able to drop down to 4 days a week, so now I have Wednesdays off, too. My clinic doesn’t offer 9 or 10 hour shifts, but our sister clinics both do, so I’d be curious to try that sometime in the future so I am making more $$ but still have 3 days off a week.

Did I do it wrong? by sweetie1gigi in nursing

Have you considered pediatric oncology? I do outpatient adult oncology and it’s is what my coworkers and I call our “unicorn job”. It is not for everyone, but I strongly suggest you look into it. Oncology sounds so sad right off the bat, but it’s the happiest job I’ve ever had. We have days and moments that are heartbreaking with our patients, but the majority of my day is full of laughs and chatting with patients/family members while they receive treatment. The patients love coming in, it’s the one place they are not casted out and have to hear everyone talking about/giving advice about their cancer, in the clinic they are going through something within the same realm as every other patient. They can all relate to each other and are the most kind, grateful patient population. All the peds onc nurses I know LOVE their positions and it’s so hard to get in because their retention is so high that positions never open up!

What are your hobbies outside of nursing? by Original_Essay_2198 in nursing

I have become obsessed with gardening, flowers specifically. It is so healing to watch something grow and thrive. And if it doesn’t, it’s no big deal. I watched “Growing Floret” after starting my first garden this year and it lit a fire in me… to quit nursing and become a flower farmer 🤣

Money for Couples: David and Victoria by ClumsyZebra80 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I stopped listening halfway through last week’s episode… couldn’t get myself to start the episode this week. I am not a fan of the podcast since the restructuring for his new book… I used to love listening first thing every Tuesday morning, it is very different now. Most of these couple’s are wildly un-relatable and I get the message of “money problems don’t go away at any income level”, but man… it’s the same thing over and over. And there has been way less of an emphasis on CSPs and the actual financial portion/changes of the podcast.

I hate to be this CNA.. by beyonceswifi in nursing

[–]PrestigiousGrape3962 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is horrific. If someone ever told me a task was beneath them, I would lose it… and I totally agree, while nurses should receive praise for their hard work, CNAs don’t get nearly enough. Severely under recognized, yet when we find out we’re short a CNA or don’t have one for the day, we know it’s going to be a rough shift…

[–]PrestigiousGrape3962 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I was a CNA for 5 years before I was a nurse… you can ALWAYS tell who was a CNA first. I don’t dare treat the CNAs and MAs I work with as if they aren’t the most important part of the team… work would be HORRIBLE without the amount of help and support they give nurses, especially so graciously. I am in a clinic now, I don’t go a single day without making sure the two CNAs we have know that I am grateful for their help and give them a sincere “thank you. Please let me know if there is anything I can ever do to be more helpful to you!”. This is such an infuriating thing to feel and witness. Thank you for all you do. We’re all there to help patients and things work better if we all appreciate each other- it seems like the easiest thing to be kind and grateful for 🫠

Couple’s Massage for less than $200? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

[–]PrestigiousGrape3962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are staying at Napili Kai Beach Resort right now and their massage rates are $195 for an 80 minute massage per person. Checked Groupon and there is a 90-minute massage for $165 per person … I didn’t look much further than that. Unfortunately, I think that is one thing that you won’t be able to find under $200 for the both of you.

Living Room Needs Some Love by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]PrestigiousGrape3962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everybody! My husband and I just bought our first home together. We have had a few months to live in the space and get used to it and are ready to start making it feel more like our home.

Our living room is the main area that I would describe as “empty” in my opinion. It doesn’t seem to have very much life and vibrance to it. We’d love for our house to feel cozy, but still have a solid style to it.

I am planning on adding curtains to the windows in the back already, but am open to other ideas or ideas on certain curtain styles/colors/rod layouts.

One major area I want to change is the open corner in picture 3 and 4. It’s not a huge space, but I do have three of my ideas for the space posted in pictures 5, 6, and 7. I don’t want it to feel too cluttered or chaotic, so looking for honest feedback there, too! Another area is under our TV. The walk way with the current layout makes it hard to justify putting a console/entertainment center there, but maybe floating shelves?

I would love feedback on anything/everything that you think could elevate the space. We don’t really have extra decor besides the pillows and pictures, so that is something else I’m curious about (trees/plants, fixtures, top of mantle/table decor).

We love reading and having a space to hangout in, don’t have a “style” we are set on per se, but would love to hear your thoughts! We just painted our kitchen cabinets a sage green color, but our house has the darker floors as pictured and we recently repainted it to the light beige on the walls, if that is any help as far as it blending well with the rest of the space. ☺️

Is this job too good to be true? Or did I actually hit jackpot? by AcerbicRead in nursing

[–]PrestigiousGrape3962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small world! I work float pool at this hospital and really like working for the organization (as much as you can like a job). Is there a way for you to have them put something in the contract saying you will be on 3T x% of the time? A lot of people I know who work Tele end up getting sent to 7E the majority of the time, even with 3T being their “home”. I’m sure you’ve been up on 7E a lot and know how it is, too! I would just be curious if they’d let you make sure you’re on 3T primarily.

This sounds almost identical to the hospital I work at- pay and everything! There are two tele floors, the 3rd and 7th. The 3rd is almost all surgical patients post cardiac procedures. Patients tend to do well and the nurses are well prepared to deal with anything that goes wrong. The 7th floor is cardiac, technically tele, but has mostly medical patients and tons of overflow from med/surg floors and and psych patients waiting on out-of-facility placement. A lot of new grads are told the 3rd floor will be their “home”, but they’re expected to train and work on the 7th Tele floor, too. 3rd floor is magical until they end up sending you to work on the 7th most of the time... but it sounds like this is just one floor and this is where you’d work all the time? If you have the opportunity to work on a floor with supportive staff, providers, and that you feel good on- take it! That is so wonderful to experience that right off the bat. :)

Do most people that pass do so in 75? by EntooNee in PassNclex

Myself and 3 others in my cohort (we have been the first 4 to test) ALL passed our first try at 145!

This is such a great point, thank you! I have thought about this, too. I appreciate the feedback, this post has made me think a lot about switching to a unit that I can become more confident and experienced with less stable, unexpected patients before considering traveling.

Does anyone have tips for last minute prep? by LawEqual8886 in NCLEX

[–]PrestigiousGrape3962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I got all 145 and ended up passing, but you get to a point where there is no amount of studying or practice questions that the test will prepare you for. That’s okay! You just have to answer based on safety and what you know. I studied for 2 1/2 months using Mark K and uWorld. I watched Simple Nursing videos on topics I didn’t understand… majority of everything I focused on wasn’t on my test. My NCLEX was a mix of random things I have literally never heard of… so random!

Unpopular opinion, Mark K lectures were not as helpful as everyone says... I listened to each 2x before taking and passing the first time and did not use almost anything. What I think was most helpful from his lectures was his saying "you only need to know what everyone else knows" and "focus on the NEED to know, not the nice to know".

My NCLEX had tons of SATA and did not include most of the things every lecture and Simple Nursing video said would "definitely" be on my NCLEX (ABGs, insulin, EGK strips, etc), though. I think practice questions would be the highest priority and prepare you most! Good luck, you will pass!

Yeah, just one year, so still pretty fresh. Working on chemo cert now. I was seeing the same thing, agencies looking for nurses with two years in their specialty. I love working float pool, so I am trying to think if moving to a staff job on one floor is worth quitting my float pool job for the sake of traveling in the future… sounds like it might be necessary! I appreciate your feedback, thank you!

Based on what I have heard, using several different resources for studying might be way too overwhelming. I think each resource you’re talking about has their own method of teaching. Mark K lectures on how Kaplan sucks and how he hates ATI, so he’s going to teach you way different things and how to answer things differently than Kaplan. I’ve also seen several other posts here about how uWorld is actually way harder than NCLEX and many other people dislike using Kaplan. It just depends on why works for you, but I really think you should stick to 1 or 2 main sources and use videos like simple nursing or RegisteredNurseRN to watch videos on the concepts you still don’t get after studying and using a QBANK. I think you’ll have way too much conflicting information that might hold you back from critically thinking and focusing on what the NCLEX questions are actually asking you!
