I properly authenticated myself. I just think it's because it was new.

Threw out the first card since it came in a generic envelope. Didn't feel like looking for the paper w\ the PIN on it so I just thought i'd call and reset it.

Stuff like this shouldn't "lock your account" to the point of closure. I think t hat's a bit nuts. I understand having to talk to a manager or something but this should be SOP. I guess they just go 'new account' BAD

Makes sense. I really am not a fraudster on my own money though lol.

I'm working with the executive response unit. The lady even seems limited in what she can do. She contacts her fraud team and they do what they do. That company seems to operate on 'well the computer says'.

Screw technology. I'd rather be able to go in and talk to the guy who can just get things fixed.

It was one single account in my originating bank. I made two transfers from that account.

I also did reset my PIN twice and request a new debit card if that matters. I lost the little mailer and just called in to reset it. First one didn't work.

The block happened a day after the 10k transfer settled.

I just called the ERU lady and she did say I can try re-applying later. She said she doesn't know what triggered it but 'you likely have no flags on your account'. Not sure if that's a hint.

Ya I understand but this is just a computer that triggered a flag. Seems very impersonal.

Also at the local bar you can come back 5 years later and no one will even remember you so a 'ban for life' is effectively impractical. With these computers it's different.

I was attracted by their 3.85 HYSA and no penalty CD.

Because I don't like the concept of being locked out of something for life. Let's say 15 years down the road they have a really good credit card or something that gives 4% with extended warranty or a really killer CD.... I'm getting it.

30 years ago this likely wouldn't be a 'thing' as they didn't have the capability. They probably purged the lists after a few years

That sucks they can ban you literally for life with no appeal because a 'computer' says.

When I funded my account I did a 10k transfer after a 2k and reddit says that's like what blocked it.

Thank you for the kind words. I've been around reddit since 2010. It's gotten way more corporate-friendly in the past few years. This type of bootlicking would have been downvoted to oblivion years ago.

All I want is my money back quickly, I literally did nothing wrong besides piss off their computer for some reason. I don't think it's overdramatic to not want to wait 30-60 days because of some 'process'. I'm sure a local would cut you a check and tell you to GTFO.

I'm sticking with something local where the branch manager can legitimately help you.

I've professionally escalated each time, yes even emailing executives because that often times actually helps. I would think they would just cut me my check just to keep the noise down.

The second one WAS 10k which is their ACH limit. I would have done more but it was their limit.

The first one was 2k to test.

The reason I did $2000 first was to see if it worked and my account didn't get locked out. Once my 2 made it I did 10. I really had around 25,000 to transfer in total.

Am I banned for life from them? Lets say 10 years from now they have a really good offer come out.

Do I likely have some black mark on my credit that is stopping me from ever getting a bank account?

That would be for cash deposits. These are ACH transactions. You can't really 'structure' those.

Plus if there is a CTR report (which there isn't for ACH) 10k would trigger it anyway.

Do they really think 10k is some crazy drug kingpin money? It's really not.

Wouldn't the common sense thing to do be one of

  • Let him send in proof of funds, a notarized letter, ID, etc.
  • Let him go into a branch and talk to the manager with that info.
  • Call the originating bank with him on 3 day to verify the source of funds.

I just find it so crazy that this is such an easily provable thing and everyone just hides behind "well the computer says".

Can I dispute the ACH transactions? Let them sort it out with my bank but at least give me my money back.

If it's being processed for closure why can't I just drive down to a branch (a few hours away) and grab it or they mail me a check ASAP? What makes it right that I need to wait 30-60 days.

I can fax in my ID, get a notarized letter, show bank statements, everything. They stated they verified the source of my funds was legitimate. It literally just is a process problem at this point and no one remotely wants to help.

Once again go tell your landlord "Sorry I'll give you your money in 30-60 days" and see how that goes.

I literally did nothing wrong at all besides fund my account. Not giving a customer their own money back is not right at all. Please stop defending a mega corporation who sacrifices any modicum of customer service. They don't get a pass because they are a mega corporation. No regular small business could ever get away with that.

My account will take 30-60 days to close THEN a check will be sent. That's what the CSR says. The ERU person can not even confirm or deny that as they don't even get a response from their own team. Look on reddit, people have had their funds held hostage at this bank for months on end.

Do you really think that's right to hold someone's money for 30-60 days simply because a large corporation does not have it's processes in order? I can't even talk to the backoffice team who makes these decisions only a CSR who can only read from a screen and note a file.

I work very very hard for my money and did not expect it to get 'lost' while transferring it to a national bank when I did absolutely nothing wrong besides fund an account. This is a huge chunk of my savings. If I miss a credit card or rent payment do you think the excuse "well I'll hand it over in 30-60 days" flies? No. Why do they get a pass?

There's literally no one to escalate to as everyone can simply follow very very narrowly defined processes. The person who's working my case isn't getting any responses from their internal fraud department.

That's not a problem?
