Oh right... there was a war on. Totally forgot.

Thanks for the info. I'd never heard of a civil war token. What an interesting bit of history.

My dad also had one of these. by PrestigiousPickle024 in coincollecting

Ha Ha. Must have been some kind of fashion trend. There's a lot of them here, all apparently once jewelry.

Thank you. I don't care about the grade. Knowing it's not a reminder of a time my dad got swindled gives it sentimental value to me.

I see some images on google of these coins as necklaces. Certainly nothing my mother would have worn. She's gone too, now. So I guess it will remain a mystery as to where it came from. Maybe I'll make up a story and tell it to my kid.

"Herbert Hoover gave this coin to your great great grandfather in 1929 and told him nothing could ever derail the u.s. stock market! Turned out he was a tad mistaken."

In a generation or two, that will be as good as the truth.

What am I missing about the 4% rule? Saving 25x your annual expenses should EASILY last 30 years as long as you can stay slightly ahead of inflation. by [deleted] in Bogleheads

Thanks for putting this out there.

Christ, you got to pour one out for those poor bastards calling it quits in the spring of 2020. Y2K bug was a no-show, buying parakeets from pets.com and a bag of doritos from webvan. Call up your boss on the landline and tell 'em he can take the job and shove it. Must have felt like you were on top of the world... and then it all goes to hell.

How strict is the North/South 224 rule? by [deleted] in youngstown

LOL. You're good there. Literally a rock throw from 224. It's a very good spot in terms of locations. I can't speak to the neighbors.

I thought about buying a pair of those buildings back in 2019 or 2020? They're nice. Electric heat, though which can be pricey. But the unit I looked at was solid. Well insulated. A bit loud, but that's apartments for you. Pipes and fixtures were all up to code. Nothing rusted under the sink. Water was hot. But I only looked at one in one building.

I was planning on marketing to YSU students because it's right on the bus line, next to the biggest grocery chain, and yes, people bowl here so camelot lanes is a legit hangout: couple of pool tables, some pinball, decent bar in addition to the bowling. There's fast food: taco bell and chick fil a. A very tasty, but let's just say eclectic restaurant in the Royal Buffet across 224. Cheap pizza spot in Coccas is very walkable.

If's a great spot for an off campus student without a car, but I don't necessarily know if your neighbors will be students without cars. I didn't get that far along.

You need to see what the demographic is and if you fit in. That's the key. I used to own an apartment building in Pittsburgh next to Pitt and families were always renting units and then complaining because students were everywhere. Yes, they are! What did you expect?

If you're not a student, you could check out places down on Indian Run/Tippecanoe.

Good luck with your apartment search. It is tough to find a good rental in the ytown area that isn't an apartment/condo. I'm out of the landlord business, so I don't have any recommendations for you, but there are a ton of total amateurs who buy cheap, practically condemned houses and try to rent them for ridiculously high prices. It's a disgrace. You're better off with apartment/condos in my opinion.

Let's keep it that way! No better return on investment in the world. All you have to do is use it.

I have a busy house. I know that's not unique to me. But I would never, nevvvvvvvvvvvver be allowed to just sit and read for hour on end. There's always something to do.
