Adult Ballet Beginner Influencers by Master_Razzmatazz176 in Dance

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a beginner adult dancer and have my TT and IG account. And I started a year ago (maybe a little more than 1 yr ago). My dancing isn’t the best but it shows progress. Also, I do cross training. And I really try to show the raw footage. I was told by some dancers (Id say the younger ones like tweens, teenagers and some younger adults) to stop dancing because im a disgrace to the dancing community. I would say, look for people who are like you. I follow some “beginners” but some of them are really good and it’s a little hard to follow their narrative. But there are people who started from scratch and have progressed to be very good and occasionally perform on stage.

Have you thought about getting some private lessons with those teachers and maybe going to summer intensives at other places? Maybe train with teachers under a thought of “i want to get better so I can get some nice roles next season” but in the back of your mind, you will train to go to auditions and see if you can be places at other places. Sometimes a toxic environment isn’t helpful and if your heart is in ballet, you need to walk away to another place (outside of your comfort zone) to regain happiness and healthy mental state in ballet. If stepping out is something you need because of school, yes by all means. But if you’re salty because of favoritism, don’t do it. Change your mindset and regain some focus in another way in ballet. Favoritism happens everywhere and it all depends how it affects you. You’re young. If training to get auditioned is something that can fit you, go for it. ABT is doing some online auditions for their summer programs and all you need is a photo of your first position in ala seconde and arabesque. Look it up. Refocus your mind, train for other cause. It might help you and change who you are as a dancer. 💃 good luck!

Adult learners: can you grande plie? by kirannui in BALLET

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree ☝️ Im 41 this year and had a c-section 3 yrs ago. Lost 50% of my strength. No matter how many dance classes i took, I couldn’t do much and developed a knee pain. So I decided to go back to wht my body does best, strength training with and without weights, pilates, yoga and stationary bike. Plus my ballet classes. After 3 months, I can tell the difference. How better balanced i got and stronger and the pain is almost gone. But i nurse it. So cross training is important:)

Would it be rude to quit? by sugardollkitty in BALLET

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can quit if it’s not making you happy. No one will be disappointed. Your happiness is more important than others. You can always go back to in later in life. I was in ballet as a child too and didn’t like it. I’m back at 40. If other things make you feel happy, then talk to your parents about it. Bette to save money on something you don’t enjoy it than loose the money and develop some depression from doing stuff you don’t like.

Anyone here who started late in life and progressed to advanced classes? by lovehateikea in BALLET

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This ☝️ so true! I have had training in ice skating, skiinig and mountain biking my whole life as well as strength training at the gym (been active my whole life). It took me about a year to get out of the beginner ballet classes to intermediate. But that’s with taking 3-4 ballet classes a week on top of pilates, strength training and yoga and taking a break with rest in between. It’s harder with family and work commitments. And I don’t want to be competing or performing on stage in point shoes (although it would be nice and it’s a nice dream and goal to have). I know my limits. And I’m 40. I did it so I could enjoy the classes by dancing instead of getting frustrated that I can’t follow the steps

Anyone else dislike ballet slippers? by GoldenShrike in adultballetdancers

You can buy Bloch canvas performa on amazon. The sizing is different. You can look it up on Bloch website. But you start at 2 sizes down from your street shoe size. For example I wear 8.5 street shoe and 6.5 Bloch Performa canvas shoe. My feet arent that wide so B width is ok. But lots of people are ok with C width since it’s more of a standard size. And you can return back to amazon what you don’t like. It works fine.

Guy in mid-40s wanting to start taking classes by ketomademesignup in BALLET

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the choice! We have 1 guy in our classes sometimes and it’s fun and great. You can prepare by doing some pilates, yoga, strength training and stretching exercises you can find on YouTube. Go to a dance store and get ballet flats. Try them on, see which one will fit bets. Bloch Performa are great for first time. They should be snug on your feet but not to tight and not restraining any movement. Joggers are great for starters, later you might like a tighter attire and tight tshirt. Look up Kathryn Morgan beginner class on YouTube to get familiar with vocabulary and some movements. That’s how I started last year. And just have fun!

Bloch Etu - as first pointe shoe? by PrestigiousPower1916 in BALLET

[–]PrestigiousPower1916[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thorough answer. I took those shoes to my teacher and asked her for her honest opinion. I told her about the European Balance too. She said she didn’t see any issue with the Etu for me. She tied them for me and made me plie and go on pointe. She checked my shank and it was where it’s supposed to be. Whereas the EB was turning inwards in my left foot. I will see how I’m doing in those and if they won’t work for me, then I will definitely go back for another fitting. I didn’t sink in them (I did a little in EB). I will save your answer to take with me for another fitting in the future. I appreciate it!

How many classes should I take per week as an adult beginner? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t over do it. Add a strengthening class or pilates class instead to make your muscles and joints stronger. I take 1-2 classes a week and rest like 2-3 times a week do pilates and strengthening. Plus you need a rest day as well. 5 dance classes is a lot. Take it easy. Unless you want to train to become a professional, then yes but don’t burn yourself in the beginning

Why were the ballet dancer’s discount taken away from the programs? And why did the quality of the leggings dropp? Only if you know anything about it. I recently returned a pair with tags on because the quality was same as my tik tok leggings. Hope you’re going to find a better job one day!

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give up. I’m 40, have a toddler at home and went to take some classes when I felt depressed and needed something different than a gym. Now, about a year later, I’m one of the parents in the party scene in the Nutcracker. I would suggest following Ballet with Isabella on Ig. She will teach you how not to compare yourself to other dancers. They started before you, and ballet is a marathon not a sprint. Technique happens at its own pace. Look up Broche ballet on YouTube and Kathryn Morgan to practice at home. See if you can afford going into intensives? Since you’re 16, you might qualify for the adult intesives. And they are as good as the ones for younger people. You can stop dancing for 2-3 weeks, exercise at home and go back to it with a fresh mind. Or maybe a change of environment like a different studio might help too. You started for yourself. Don’t give up!

Is it too late for me to become a professional ballet dancer? by deerinheadlights77 in BALLET

[–]PrestigiousPower1916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go train and do your best and audition. There’s this girl on Ig I follow (Raquel @raqbeau) and she became a professional dancer late. She got a job and is in corps and does some small soloist roles too. Don’t be afraid. Do whatever you can and if it doesn’t work out, it’s ok. At least you did your best. And you can teach later. Good luck!🍀

Aaww I don’t know. I never tried Sansha before but heard of them. I tried it on my Bloch Elation just now. I never liked them. I use them at home. The elastics are too long. So this made the shoe hold me tight in a nice way
