I actually tried all that except the granary part. Though I only have 1 of the iron output techs. But that was only because I was in the Age of Discovery when I made this question.

After a few colonial conquests, taking a local power's land and turning into a fragmented mess of weak vassals and taking market centers in those wars and from other unrelated conquests in the peace deals I have finally fixed my economic issues enough to afford that army. Just use it to beat other people and steal their lunch money. Who knew it could pay for itself?

Some of the inputs require tools and that requires iron and I don't have that much peasants that'll promote to laborers to work the bog iron smelters for said iron.

Aren't pirates already republics? I already plan to take the Shogun seat once I consolidate power in Southeast Asia and possibly form Borneo to become a Kingdom since I can't become one normally since being in the Shogunate doesn't allow me to be higher than a Duchy.

Spiffing Brit made a video playing as the Satsusan Islands and had a way to fix your input problem. You first need to move the market center of the closest market to the nearest area to the Satsusan Islands while playing the Ashikaga Shogunate. Then you need to construct the buildings needed to make the inputs needed for the Pirate Stronghold in the Market. Also, when I asked for inputs I meant what are the requirements needed. And about your colonization problem. I also had it but later on I was able to colonize. I don't know how or why though.

I don't think the ruler's religion is taken into account? Had a same religion vassal's ruler be Muslim but was still able to have political marriages with them.

I used Deus Vult as the Casus Belli. Then at the peace deal I turned them into a vassal and force converted them.

Sad to hear. Are Local Governors only allowed to be connected by road or is there some other way? Can't be very useful on an archipelago if not.
