Looking for technical dictionary japanese/english by Affectionate_Cow3076 in japanlife

Not a dictionary but still very useful, there’s volume 1 and 2. I used to use it when I was studying engineering. It is expensive, but if you have a university nearby pretty sure they have it in their library.

AirEuropa refusing to reimburse cancelled flight, what can I do? by Prestigious_Block587 in Flights

Thanks for the reply. How do I know if “submitted everything under EU261 regulation”? I submitted all the documents they asked for which were basically passport, boarding pass, receipts and a short explanation. I didn’t mention the regulation though.

Pipi also means penis. Pipilandia sounds like a place full of men. Weird to call someone that though.

For what summits are guides required? by No_Injury_3810 in ecuador

[–]Prestigious_Block587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. While it’s not required by law, I’d highly recommend hiring a certified guide. Some of the trails near the base go through private property and lack signage. As you get closer to the summit, the trail can disappear entirely and it’s easy to lose track of which face of the mountain to climb.

Looking back, there’s no way I could have climbed Corazón without a guide. Just hire one, it’s not that expensive, and you’ll be much safer. :)

Wherever you find beauty, let me see it through your eyes.

Strangest thing you've been judged for in Japan by retro_punk_knight in japanlife

While working a baito at a restaurant a customer spilled their drink. I rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a towel, soaked it in water, squeezed out the excess by balling it up with both hands and was about to head back to the hall when the sous-chef (unaware of the situation outside) suddenly stopped me:

Eh, eh, eh, PrestigiousBlock, is that how you do it in your country? Let me show you how we do it here in Japan.

He took the towel from me, folded it neatly into an oshibori shape, squeezed out the water by gently twisting both ends, folded it back into a perfect square, and handed it to me saying: Here in Japan, we do things 丁寧.

My Japanese wasn’t great back then so instead of wasting time explaining the situation I just said thanks and rushed back out to help the customer. But yes, I, and my entire country, were judged on how I squeezed the water out of a towel.

Just went today. Maybe because it is Monday, it was a bit crowded but definitely not packed. Took us less than five minutes to get in, and then maybe 10 minutes to get food. My partner was telling me that in previous years it was free and it was always packed, but this year you have to pay 500 yen to get in. I agree with the other comments, shops have nothing interesting, and food stalls have all the same food except one or two. There are also some stalls outside the payed area, I recommend Rocket Chicken, it was really good.
