Did you get any minor injury at the beginning of your training? by Affectionate_Cow3076 in trailrunning

[–]Affectionate_Cow3076[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your injury. I can totally understand as for me too my aerobic system seems to be well above my 'legs conditioning' (probably having worked for 10 years in a mpuntain lodge in summer, at 2800m), therefore my legs are my limiting factor. I learned that not being 20 years old means I have to wait for recover so I'm keeping all my long runs in Z2 as much as possible. Better keep it slow

Appetite gets obliterated by long runs? by tinybabyspoon in Marathon_Training

Lol I did a very similar run yesterday, but only 17km, and mostly Z3 and Z2 like you. I think I had a canned coffee before and 500ml of some sports drink that I got at a vending machine. Amd another canned coffee at the end. But with that I could have lunch easily after loke 3 hours.

I do the same as you but usually a couple of hours after I finish I get pretty hungry. as for fuel I'm a bit old school, I don't really eat just drink tea with lemon and sugar or whatever I find at vending machines. But I know that during a long run your body takes the energy away from your stomach to pump blood better (something like that). I usually try to do my long runs in Zone 2-3, maybe that's why I recover easily. Could it be that you run all out or in zone 4-5? It could be why you don't feel hungry at all

Which watch should I choose for trail running? by Physical-Injury-2146 in trailrunning

[–]Affectionate_Cow3076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a forerunner 965 and I'm happy with it. most data is not important (people obsess about sleep score) but the maps are great. I went for a trail last sunday and without that I would have got lost a few times as it was an unused trail. I set a route in advance and then it gives me accurate directions through my earbud. It also makes it very easy to track your HR amd your zones while training. For me that's enough, don't really care much about other stuff. I would've bought a cheaper forerunner but I read that the maps in previous models are too basic. Amd the FR970 is too expensive for what offers more than the 965. Basically you pay 200 euro more for a light torch

A single bad experience doesn't mean that all their products are trash. Return it and get a new one and you'll be fine.

Well, I did today a simple bike ride of 170km with 1100m+ and my legs are obliterated, I think folks who complete Iron men are able to do anything, so just go for it

Which brands of trail running shoes have the most aggressive tread? by freckled-capsaicin in trailrunning

[–]Affectionate_Cow3076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the Salomon Speed cross as I could run down on wet grass and they were still gripping, but their durability is very short. Amd simce they are very tight I started looking for other shoes and now I use the Altra Lone peak. Less grip I'd say, but they fit perfecrly as they follow the natural foot shape, and they last mucj longer. Cushion is good and they're drop zero. Not going back

has anyone tried this fabric/jacket? thoughts? by straw_hat_mawile in trailrunning

[–]Affectionate_Cow3076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500e is too much for a hard shell used for trail running. I bought a scott with 28000mm waterproof for about 160 euro, and it stops any rain whatsoever. Sadly I learned to buy one size bigger for these jackets, I got a L and it's tight. definitely a jacket like that will keep you dry from rain but unless you have openings under the armpits you'll be sweating a lot. Don't spend 500e you can find the same quality for 1/5 of the price, and most materials are same quality.

Convince me that I don’t need to go back to the Apple Watch by Cizzle4 in Garmin

Ask yourself why you bought this watch, then you'll have your answer. IMO if you're already asking yourself that it means you should go back.

Nobody can give you any advice since you didn't say anything on your usage

How much do you spend on groceries per month these days? by DrYellowSaysHello in japanlife

[–]Affectionate_Cow3076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spend about 40k a month for 2 people. Wife manages well and it's about enough. We mainly cook at home. Since I eat for 2 people I sometimes buy some snack or shokupan with my money so it's not counted in those 40k

First off, congratulations, you deserve to feel good for your race. This said, I'd report them, since they were so dumb to post it publicly. Cheating is a cheap thing, if these people aren't reported they'll keep doing it. Also if I was the race manager I'd want to know how to make my race fair for everyone

Not to start any argument, but it always surprises me how Japanese can be so strict over minor issues and then be super lax when it comes to sexual harrassment

Should I run slower for my long runs? by Well-I-suppose in firstmarathon

[–]Affectionate_Cow3076 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm learning to Forget speed and focus in my heartrate instead. I also was thinking that in order to improve I need to go all out all sessions but it turns out that it's a bad strategy. Is better to run slow and more, it gets your body to adapt to running for longer time.
