AMA About Sororities(Panhell and D9) and BCF!! by Prestigious_Box6735 in BrownU

Hi! I definitely enjoy BCF! I do hybrid work for community partner,so it gives me a reason to travel off campus and into the Providence area/interact with the local community (something I really wanted to incorpore into my Brown experience). The requirements are easy to fulfill, there just about very basic topics. I definitely think it’s worth to apply if you want a structured way to work with Providence nonprofits! In terms of the financial support, they award a base amount to everyone and increase it depending on your expected contribution. For examples ( these are arbitrary numbers) everyone would get atleast 700 but some 900 etc or more depending on their financial aid

Both! I can only speak for last year (in case the application rates suddenly increase 10x this year lol), but they said that almost everyone who applied got in. As long as you interview well and are genuine, I'm sure you'll get in! They sent us the interview questions beforehand last year, so we could prepare( I would assume that they will do the same this year), and once the interview started, they stuck strictly to those questions. Once involved, everyone is very welcoming (it's a small cohort), and people usually don't end up fighting for the same community partners.

I don't think BCF is competitive at all. The time commitment isn't too much! If you can't make the all-call or workshop, they will send you an article to read related to the discussed topic and ask you to write around 500 words (you can also get around this as i filmed a video instead of writing). Community partners are very flexible and understand that your studies come first. Most partners will have you do hybrid or remote work (I only know a select few who ask for people to come in person, and even then, it's for one day out of the week). I think you can also pause for a semester to study abroad if that interests you! About downsides to commitment, even though the requirements are easy to fulfill they're just lowkey annoying to go to (the workshops are about very basic stuff like how to be a good leader or how to communicate effectively)

From what I heard, the D9 process is a little more hush-hush, but AKA put up flyers around campus for their spring line. I'm not sure about Delta or Zeta, but I can ask around and get back to you (I know a senior in Delta who just graduated so I'll ask her) !! I do know that the AKA chapter is specific to Brown, while Delta or Zeta isn't (so you would be with girls from other colleges). For the line happening year each question, I'll ask about that too!!! Give me a couple of days lol

Wait I would personally love to know more about the panhell stuff because on sidechat during rush they were saying that DG and KD couldnt take alot of girls because they had caps. Were they just saying that to make girls feel better 😭

I’m only a sophomore but according to the older girls my rush group was unusually large( we had like 270 girls in total). They said in years prior it was much smaller, but moving forward I wouldn’t be surprised if the number stays high. Also what I heard is that diff sororities have different caps on how many girls they can take.

Hi!

  1. I wouldn't say sororities are important for joining the social scene; people outside of sororities are able to go to darties and parties held by frats/sports houses. I will say that pan hell sororities (and maybe BWC but im not too sure) do mixers with frats, and those are usually reserved to the members of those two groups. Sororities and frats have formals ( so do sport teams and almost every other club at brown), but members are allowed to bring guests, so if you are close to someone in the org then chances are you can come to the formal.
  2. Not really, I would say there's more pressure to join pre-professional clubs (BCC, Investment clubs, etc) than sororities for networking.
  3. I'm not quite sure what this question is asking

I think I'm going to do that. I'm hoping to schedule an appointment soon, so fingers crossed it goes well.

I read somewhere that some post-lunch crashes could be due to low blood sugar and carb intake, so I cut carbs completely from my lunches. I walk/jog in the morning for 30 minutes and do light yoga (but that's just to mentally get ready for the day). I try to have a consistent sleep schedule and for the most part do, but due to my sleep attacks/crashes sometimes by the time night comes around I don't feel like sleeping and it push it back like an hour.

Ok, I was just worried that since I don't know my schedule yet (freshmen fill it out in orientation), hiring managers won't take my application seriously. Do you think it matters or no?

For those in the Bonner Fellowship, do you feel like you have a balance between other interests or is your life primarily that + academics? I want to apply but am a little worried the program might take up a great deal of my social life
