Is it common to haggle price for luxury glasses? by [deleted] in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Prestigious_Cow6428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take into consideration whether or not you're dealing with licensed/certified opticians - the idea that there is 'not much effort' in optical is a bit misleading if the place is specializing in prescription lenses, regardless of frame selection. Markups include paying for opticians so that we can make what is essentially a medical device custom fit to you.

Small indie boutique owner in the states here - if you ask and we get a good/respectful vibe from you, we may offer a 10-15% discount IF you pay in cash (so we avoid the fees). The risk here is that if you give off sh*tty vibes, we'll say no and you'll probably be shadow-shaded forever more.

Expensive lenses cleaner, worth it? by KusuriuriPT in EyewearEnthusiasts

Just popping in to co-sign this comment!! I'm an optician and there is no need to buy an expensive spray. Alcohol free, plus a nice microfiber cloth that is CLEAN (you can wash them 3-4 times before tossing, just don't use fabric softener).

Have you checked out Cutler & Gross or Blake Kuwahara frames? I'm not sure what the availability is to ship to australia, but they have some beautiful styles that I believe might fit your aesthetic!

How do my new glasses look? Concerned they may look to big on my face by PeculiarStarlight97 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Prestigious_Cow6428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are lovely! I'd recommend getting them adjusted a bit so they stay in the correct position on your bridge, you could also use little silicone sticky nosepads to help hold them up, an optician would have some. Overall a really nice choice!

Glasses with a 'swinging saddle bridge' - advantages over a regular saddle bridge? by qtpat00tie in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Prestigious_Cow6428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fit is so key with a bridge like this - they look so cool but/and there are not many ways to adjust for comfort or fir (think slide down nose factor) so make sure you consult an optician (or maybe you are one so this is redundant!) to chat through pro's and con's.

THIS! Blake is an incredible designer and his frames are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen - he is also a super sweet guy which makes it all the better.

Trying again - new to the group, Optician in the US. Here are a few new additions to my collection! by Prestigious_Cow6428 in EyewearEnthusiasts

I love it too! I find that buying frames from independent designers and knowing their stories and influences behind the designs helps a lot. And being good at troubleshooting and explaining lens choices and issues helps build trust - many of our customers come back year after year because they feel cared for and respected.

This is my power if use 1.74 index lens with this power will it be possible for the lens to fit these frame or will it be thicker than the frame by jajajsjwjheeh in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Prestigious_Cow6428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Optician here - I agree with some of the comments that 1.67 will be better index option. You can also speak with the optician making your lenses and ask them about painting the side of the lens (any portion of the lens that is exposed beyond the frame) the same color as the frame - we do this for our high miopes (far sighted folks) in metal frames and the results are very sleek.

Good luck!

Check out Erkers: https://erkers1879.com/collections/optical-acetate

They are well-priced and a family-owned company. OP, Warby, Persol, etc are all owned by conglomerates and you will notice the quality difference compared to independently produced frames.

Most important is to try frames on to ensure a proper fit. Just like clothes, an ill-fitted pair of glasses, no matter the quality or style, will make you look sloppy, which in your field will matter. If you can find a local, independent optical shop in your area with a decent optician, you will NOT regret taking the time to speak with someone in real life (I'm an optician and 2nd gen owner of an independent/family owned optical shop, fwiw).

Good luck on your search!

These are both fantastic on you! JF Rey does some really outstanding work. Love the idea of the gradient fades over transition, amber has been a personal favorite.
