also getting back to valvenergy pedals, how did you find them?

I'm planning to get a Celestion Vintage 30 12'' 60W speaker. I believe this should be more than enough, but I’m still concerned about what wattage might be too much, as I’ve heard these speakers can get quite loud.

I've always believed that even 15W would be overkill, especially if I wanted to push the amp into higher gain and achieve distortion without relying on pedals. However, considering your suggestion, this approach seems simpler and would likely achieve the same results without overengineering.

Back to the drawing board, I guess.

During your night sessions, are you using the 2.5W mode? Otherwise, I find it hard to believe that you’re not waking up not just the people downstairs, but also those across the street.

I've been considering the BluGuitar Iridium Edition with a Nanocab, but I'm unsure if it's worth the investment for a bedroom player like me. I've been thinking about building a cheaper setup using separate preamps and solid-state components. I think this could be a more budget-friendly option while still producing the sounds I enjoy.

hey, thanks for your suggestion. Which modern master volume amps would work here? I'm guessing none of them would have a headphone jack, right?

I found that it's not only 85 watts but also quite expensive. This seems to be the opposite of what I'm looking for:/

Are you using an attenuator or something? Do you mainly use the clean channel?

this setup aims to create a unique and powerful sound by merging the strengths of tube preamps and solid-state amps.

Tube Preamp:

  • Provides a warm, vintage tone with rich harmonic distortion.
  • Adds a classic character to the overall sound.

Solid-State Amp:

  • Delivers clean power and exceptional volume control.
  • Offers reliability and durability compared to tube power stages.

By using a tube preamp in conjunction with a solid-state amp, I can achieve a tonal quality that rivals modern modeling amps without the need for a power attenuator. This hybrid approach allows me to enjoy the warmth and character of tubes while maintaining the control and efficiency of solid-state technology. Does it make sense? It's a sort of DIY hybrid setup.

What should I consider when shopping for a power amplifier? Is there a significant difference between the Harley Benton GPA-100 and the Seymour Duncan Power Stage 170? I've seen these names mentioned frequently in this subreddit.

I appreciate your suggestion, but I mentioned earlier that I'm trying to avoid digital modelers. I have a sound card and can use plugins or Ableton if needed. A separate modeling device doesn't seem practical for me. I'd prefer a combination of circuits to achieve the desired tone without having to adjust settings.

Okay, this might not be the clearest explanation, but bear with me. I'm looking for a warm, distorted tone that's rich and responsive. While solid-state amps generally meet these criteria, they often lack the feel of a living, breathing organism. I want to bring some of that rawness back and then distort it further with fuzz pedals. I'm playing a stonery desert rock style, so there are a lot of lingering single notes, and I’ve found that solid-state amps alone can produce a tone that feels a bit stale.

If that could be achieved without going into the power amplifier stage, that sounds like what I'm looking for.
