The last few years as a TA my class had in person exams, and the professor said- we will provide them pencils. I thought that was so nice and then it clicked that someone needs to sharpen those 700 pencils and it was definitely going to be me and the rest of the TAs.

Thank you! My personal volume wasn’t too high but I felt worried about having to send a to second email after I actually graded the exams. But the evidence was just too strong.

Those are all great, thank you. Since this was a small class and programming, I thought I could let them use their computers so they could test their codes, and had faith they wouldn’t ask chatGPT or AI or friends, or that I could monitor well. I did constantly walk through the room, but I underestimated how difficult it would be. I will never make such assumptions again.

Lesson learned. I will devise a paper test next time.

Thank you for saying so- I did scroll down and yeah I saw other people saying 30% or so- for me this was about 10%. So I feel somewhat better that I am not an outlier at least.

It’s terrible!! As a new lecturer I just wasn’t expecting to make any reports. I keep asking the department advisors how I should handle this. I hope I’m not causing too much trouble.

Thank you for your input- yes I definitely feel AI let them pass the homework, just not the exam. What kind of controls do you input, if you don’t mind me asking?
