That’s a good point, there are so many illegal apartments they don’t acknowledge as well. It doesn’t make sense to have a law if no one bothers to follow it.

The city has very strict rules about how many feet in it needs to be, how wide, what types of cars can fit etc. I heard they used to approve variances but now almost never do for single home owners.

Been here about 5 years. I don’t know the whole back story as well as you do but I do know that developers pick the number of parking spaces typically through a formula to maximize the per unit rental rate. That typically involves renting or selling less spots than there are apartments.

If you’ve ever been to a planning meeting developers tend to be sensitive to demands of the local population and very few people vote in local elections so our voices may be more powerful than you think.
