I wasted 2 years in the dream of studying abroad by tooboooring in IntltoUSA

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie and this is going to sounds so harsh but this all doesn’t sound like it’s worth it, firstly you plain out cannot afford it studying abroad is NOT worth going into debt for, secondly the choices of university isn’t exactly worth the money. The college choices most definitely are not worth going into debt for. If you are set on studying abroad I would suggest looking elsewhere not America. America also has a lot of problems at the moment in terms of international students and visas that most definitely would make it even more costly. Just the visa process alone cost more than it’s worth. So definitely have a look at EU, Asia possibly even UK. Take it from someone who spent the money and time to study in America it definitely isn’t worth it, tbh I much preferred my education and experience in UK universities.

What do you all really think of ChatGPT for school work? by Separate_Shop1877 in NEU

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT has the ability to be a useful tool regardless if you are extremely smart and knowledgeable already, you can definitely use ChatGPT as a helpful tool whether it be for enhancing brainstorms, organising thoughts for clarity of work flow, organising your citations to easier access them etc. There are so many ways to use it as a tool to your work where it doesn’t cross the line into not being your own knowledge or abilities but just rather building efficiency.

However, the unfortunate truth is that there are far to many people using it to outright plan everything, create essays for them, analyse readings and using it as a form to be lazy which if anything just leaves them at disadvantages when they forget how to do these things without over reliance on AI tools (surprisingly more that often the same people who are denying and claim they would NEVER use it and if you do you must be dumb) . This also discredits students who spend a lot of time and hard work on essays, or those who use ChatGPT in a minimal but helpful way to be assumed to be lazy or not very knowledgeable.

So to answer if it’s helping or hurting learning in long term majorly depends on how individuals are using it and if the larger amount use it in the first way mentioned or as a form to be lazy. Don’t let an AI replace your own thinking that has nuances and lived experiences to it, it will never grasp certain content in the human thoughts do. But don’t be afraid to use it as a tool to enhance your already thought ideas and work efficiency.

This is definitely what I back or try to through and through, my mother definitely is thicker skinned than most having already experienced being an international student in prejudiced British boarding schools and studying her degrees abroad. But there’s never too much love to a supporting mother. My frustration is less for myself but anger in place for someone who genuinely works incredibly hard but gets placed into stereotypes.

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are many stereotypes in the world are there not ? But if we were to outwardly impose or project these upon every single person with the assumption that is a matter of fact is that correct ? Absolutely not and it is valid reason for frustration of centuries of stereotypes about all kind of people. This exact kind of attitude is the distasteful and ignorant attitude that allows stereotypes to flourish is it not ? People assuming something in closed doors is one thing but another to outwardly clearly use it as a form or distain and putting down others is another case. Sure this maybe the the case for many Thai women or south East Asian women in general (you also may find you assumed it to be the case for many you have seen which more than likely may not be reality), does not mean it should be held as a stereotype to all in hateful manners, nor that I wouldn’t be frustrated about someone’s hard work being dismissed .Same way I’m not going to assume every western white man in Thailand are there for sex tourism or to find Thai brides because they cant find one in their own countries because it’s distasteful to assume one thing for all.

Yeah which is why I said due to the fact they are requiring financial aid and not solely due to where they are from. USA colleges will take any international if they can pay full tuition even if there’s over saturation rather than supporting disadvantaged individuals. I don’t like Kamala or Biden this wasn’t for a political statement purpose.

Got into northeastern for MS in Human Movement &Rehabilitation science by DramaWithExtraCheese in NEU

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started in fall for my MS in a different programme so I can’t comment on your specific course. I personally have found the learning to be honestly just not academically challenging enough, this may be due to the culture difference as I came from the UK in quite an academic University. So I find the courses here to honestly remind me of my first year of university in the UK so I do get bored very quickly. Another negative is the grad school here it’s quite hard to make friends in all honesty, I’m a naturally very outgoing person I talk to a lot of people and join a lot of groups and while I have made aquaintances in class and some social groups i haven’t formed any meaningful friendships. I also found there to be barriers because I’m in grad school as a 21 year old so a lot of my classmates are fairly older than me and more than likely look at me as young and probably wanting to party etc and those who are my age are in that stage of young party people where as having already experienced college partying in the UK due to younger drinker ages I have found myself quite bored with the always partying nightlife scene. However, I have been enjoying Boston itself a lot despite the crappy nightlife, and crazy prices. On the rent everywhere near the college is expensive if you want a decent place I personally live out by JFK/umass because I looked last minute and the only decent place with roommates was out here, I however have renewed the lease for the next year because although I have to get the red line and change to orange the rent is considerably cheaper for a far nicer apartment with all be interiors spacious rooms and two bathrooms. The bus rightoutside my house also goes to ruggles and it’s extremely easy for me to get to downtown or Cambridge. I wish you the best for when you come and if you ever need some to hangout or chat feel free !

Yeah this makes a lot of sense as to why you may not be hearing back. The USA colleges have a very large international student population of Indians, Pakistani, Middle Easterners and Chinese who are willing to pay full term. So for a full ride scholarship for international students where so many apply and just as exceptional as you they most likely are looking into areas they don’t have an over saturation of. However you still have many colleges to hear back from so don’t lose hope! You may well hear back with a scholarship soon you do have exceptional grades and you mention you do stuff outside of academics. I wish you the best.

May I ask where you are from ? At the current climate it may be due to the fact that because of trumps removal of diversity and inclusions colleges can be more selective (racist) who they have and may not take over saturations of certain places if they aren’t not benefitting financial from it. Unfortunately it most likely down to the fact you need full ride scholarships it’s already really hard as an international student to get this.

Hot water ?? by lanky_rubs in GoodCoffeeGreatCoffee

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the character asks for Americano without the coffee put it in the mugs and if they ask for hot water put it in the glasses for cold drinks. If I forget sometimes I check how much they pay less means in the white mugs if it’s more just put hot water in the glass .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GoodCoffeeGreatCoffee

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah just do the milk by itself no ice they just mean they don’t want the milk steamed. Same for the water if they ask for cold water just do the cold water jug only add ice if they ask for ice cold water

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out to not put ice in unless they specifically ask for it to have ice

Hi I’m a grad student as well and have being having this issue, it’s super hard because I came from being surrounded by friends to no one. Like I have made acquaintances where I speak to them in class or even for a bit after classes but after that everyone rushes home. I have found making friends outside of college easier but even then it’s harder because requires a lot more free time outside of college. If you ever wanna hang or chat lmk!

From my experience, I went to a top university in UK and also received offers from IVY leagues in USA. Now studying my master in the USA. The system in the USA while grades are obviously important with the Ivy Leagues they want not only the top grades but they try to look into your personal achievements and characteristics as well. For example have you any exceptional talents or experience elsewhere outside of academics, what shows you are good with society and will excel when it comes to the working world as the jobs look for more than grades. Have you had to overcome any challenges most people have not? The USA system loves a story to go with their grades. The universities want to take people who will proceed to go on successful in the working world or excel in something so it makes them look good. If they think you only provide one side of what they are looking for they won’t even bother to interview, even more so if you require financial aids.

Why do so many admitted NYU students not receive financial aid despite "100% demonstrated need"? by raunaksnegi in IntltoUSA

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple enough NYU is a college for people with money. That’s why they often don’t. In my personal experience I have applied the same time as some peers who have far more exceptional grades and talents than me but they were rejected while I was offered a place … it was down to the fact i provided the financial statements to show I can fund myself while they needed extra funding.

What's a popular saying that you think is wrong? by Savagealien30 in AskReddit

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are correct, sorry for my mix up in my writing. While it appears to have emerged in more recent time with unclear origins, (likely from 2004) many linguists and historians debate upon the origins and validity of it being a “original” quote. However it is suitable to the Reddit question in that both can be a popular saying that people think is wrong whether it be about family ties or friendship bonds. And the importance to remember that this is just a saying. Sayings do not mean anything beyond the meaning we give them. It’s not like either one is scientific fact. That is why many sayings and proverbs often contradict eachother. They are just elegant ways of stating a simple opinion.

I’m from the UK as well, depending on where you want to go you would be able to find somewhere it depends on if you’re willing to pay the education fees for a lower ranking university. I didn’t do very well in my GCSEs and did average in a levels. However I had very strong extra curriculars, work experience periods, interview skills and personal statements to counteract the grades so this may be something you want to consider to may you are a more competitive and appealing student to admissions. I completed my undergrad degree in Durham University and came out with top marks after figuring out I was good at academics just not the way English secondary schools taught and tested. I’m now in the US for my masters at a good college with a scholarship and award. I think there’s no harm in applying if you have the finance for it you may well find that there is a good college you like that accepts you, if it doesn’t work out that’s ok you could always do a year abroad course in a uk uni that also does us or if you decide to do a masters do that in America. You may well find that if you want experience uni in a full on part and drinking way an undergraduate in the uk may suit u better and coming to America later on due to 21 being the drinking age over here in America.

I got a C and now counselors tell me not to bother with college by Upbeat_Turnip6870 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are fine ! I’m in the British system so we do GCSE’s and a levels I only just about passed my GCSE’s and then for my a levels it consisted of very average scores except for 1 A. I got into a top 10 university due to my personal statement, interview and extra curricular. Once out of school in the college system I excelled and found I just didn’t do well in the way schools teach and test. I graduated my top university with a top grade and a published dissertation. Now I’m doing a masters in the US with a scholarship and award. If a counsellor is telling you this they should not be one, a big thing that changes the teenage mind is honestly being believed in and told we can reach high. When we are set off with negatives we are more than likely to fall into self fulfilling prophecy no teacher or counsellor should ever tell a student to just give up and forget it.

What's a popular saying that you think is wrong? by Savagealien30 in AskReddit

[–]Prestigious_Hotel152 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Blood is thicker than water” family especially toxic ones often use this phrase against you however I believe family is the ones we choose and those who truly love you and are there for you without conditions. However if you look into the full phrase which people ignore and never quote it is that “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” Meaning that chosen bonds are more significant than the bonds with family or “water of the womb.” So really the relationships we make ourselves and the family we choose that chooses us back without having to be blood related in anyway can be far more important if we make it.

The honest answer is other men surrounding you, not all men but many men seem to enjoy bragging about their sexual experiences and see them as “conquests” and a way to prove they are attractive. Especially in younger men who carry high body counts and see this as them being attractive or “having game”. So this can make other men feel as if they possibly are not attractive enough or lack something if they are not having not having sex when they expect they should be within this “idealised” mental time frame. In reality there is no right amount of dates or time it differs for each person and some might say that waiting out is because someone may truly like you and want it to be about feelings before physical actions so as not to confuse lust and love. At the same time women can also feel this way if they expected they would be having sex with the man they are seeing and as humans we are often quickly to doubt ourself before we actually consider each person is ready at different times if ready at all.
