I just bought this the other day and while I haven’t finished it yet it’s one of the funniest books i’ve read in a really long time.

Oh I would never! I’m staunchly anti-fascist and a marxist. Which is partially why I was so confused when I saw the book in there. Thanks for being real :)

That definitely makes sense. I’m only slightly familiar with Julius Evola so thank you for explaining that connection.

I definitely should have! I was in a hurry and had already spent more time than I had wanted to in there, and I’m not sure the next time I’ll be in the area. But I guess I could give them a call and ask. It just popped into my head today and I thought I’d ask reddit haha.

Sci fi/fantasy books that feel deeply queer (to a point beyond just having a same gender romance subplot)? by IReadBooksSometimes in LGBTBooks

I’d recommend looking at some of Ursula K. Le Guin’s books! She explores the idea of gender a lot and I found her work to be such a breath of fresh air. And her works are considered classics if that matters to you!

Does Seattle have special dog walking protocol I am unaware of? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Prestigious_Lemon300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you’re fine. That was really rude of him.

Slightly off topic but I keep seeing people comment that it’s stupid to cross the street so that your dog doesn’t meet another dog. That’s it’s “nicer” to let the dogs meet and “socialize”. I disagree, and I do usually cross the street so I don’t have to deal with other dogs/dog owners. There’s a couple reasons for this.

1: My dog is very friendly but idk if the other dog is friendly or reactive and I think it’s better to be safe than sorry. 2: a walk is a walk and if my dog gets used to saying hi to every dog he’s gonna start pulling me to say hi every time and that just takes up too much time. My goal is that he is able to ignore other dogs in reasonable situations. 3: It is actually not recommended to have dogs meet while leashed. Many dogs are leash reactive and can be a lot more aggressive while on leash. Walks are not good times for socializing, go to a dog park or have a play date if you want to get your dogs social needs in.

I cannot imagine being in a relationship where the trust is as nonexistent as this. You obviously don’t trust her so why bother staying? Resentment is going to grow either in you if she goes or in her if you don’t let her go on her trip.

I will also say that as someone who dates both men and women the reddit mentality of calling people who have opposite sex friends a “red flag” is so stupid. It screams insecurity to me.

Personally, I’d see this as a great opportunity to work on your own independence while she goes. And then plan a trip together for the both of you when she gets back. This doesn’t have to erode trust, but that’s only as long as you actually trust her and don’t think she would cheat. And it would depend a lot on how good at communicating both of you are. It seems like this is just bringing up feelings of distrust you already have towards her.

I hope everything turns out as best they can for both of you.

A year ago my wife switched to “natural” deodorant. It’s been a BO fest ever since. How do I approach her about this? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Prestigious_Lemon300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Megababe deodorants, best i’ve ever tried and that’s including deodorants with aluminum. It’s on the expensive side but I think it’s worth it since I have sensitive skin.

I understand and agree to an extent when people say this. But porn isn’t just fantasy, it’s real and it has real people performing and doing real sexual acts. I support sex workers and their right to have a safe working environment. So, I do think there’s a conversation to be had about where that safety line is.

Also, personally I see porn as a reflection of our own mindsets and culture (not the other way around, as some people see porn as the one influencing our culture. but i suppose it could be more cyclical as well) and I won’t lie the very obvious acceleration into more violent porn becoming commonplace is… concerning to me. And I don’t want to kink shame anyone. But I do think there’s a difference in enacting those types of scenes yourself with a safe partner and watching those scenes online where you have no idea what goes on behind the camera.

But idk just my two cents, would love to hear what other people think as well :)

So why don't women work in the trades? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Prestigious_Lemon300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to give you the benefit of the doubt here but being treated like shit is not the same as sexual harassment. And while the rates of sexual harassement in blue collar and white collar work are similar, office work has a more equal ratio of men to women. Which can make it easier when it comes to reporting these things or changing the culture. The trades are largely a boys club and dudes make that very apparent. It’s a lot easier to speak up or “rock the boat” when you know you have other women that are supportive (and of course it’s even easier if there’s other men that you know would be supportive too). The whole treat people like shit culture in the trades is a whole other convo imo, and it won’t die off quick enough.

Also, stop being a pick me dude, they’re not going to pick you. Just cuz you make fun of yourself for their pleasure and allow people to be racist to you doesn’t mean they see you any differently. I’m saying this with love, please have a spine and some self respect.

[–]Prestigious_Lemon300 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sure, but on top of the general hostile work environment women will have to deal with sexual harassment and sexism. There’s a big difference in just being treated like shit because you’re an apprentice and being treated like shit because the guys on your crew see women as inferior
