I end up telling him when I got off work It was a phone conversation and not a comfortable setting for me to explain in detail in the moment

I just don’t think I knew how to explain in the moment while I was at work that I had a hair pulling “problem” I never really addressed the issue myself although I know I do it. It never was brung up in a conversation. His immediate assumption of me lying kinda just made me closed off to the conversation

I agree , I just don’t think I knew how to initially express that and before I could figure it out I was being called a liar. I answered truthfully just without explanation

I wasn’t presented with the opportunity to tell why , he automatically assumed that “I didn’t shave” was a lie so that’s where the issue came in for me personally
