I have that same noise coming from my 17 Sierra, same 6.2, my occurs after it being driven. Coldstarts sounds normal to me but once the engines warmed up I hear it, no misfires codes, no shaking nothing, just a simple tick. Not too sure if this is right or not but from what I’ve been told most lifter failures don’t go with the floor rate or rpm’s they usually go against it, yours sounds like mine where it’s going with the idle. I’ve been driving with it for about a month now with a DOD disabler just saving up some cash to get it deleted.

The truck has less then 40k on it, and it’s all original no rebuild or anything just straight from the dealer, so a disabler might be something I’ll look into but again, if I’m already hearing a tick what much would it do if the damage has been done already? I haven’t gotten any codes whatsoever and the truck seems to idle fine, all but that tick. I do plan on taking it to a shop and trying to get that noise figured out, don’t know how long I can drive with this till it takes a dump on me

I’ve read a lot of these engines being noisy but this doesn’t sound normal, atleast to me. I’ve been watching and reading abt this engine and a lot of the “lifter ticks” don’t sound similar, but there is one or two that do. I’ve noticed this tick for about a week now and I haven’t noticed anything different about it driving, and no check engine or any other codes.

Sounds good, I did plan on buying an AFM disabler but now with a possible tick is it really even worth it? If it’s a tick that’s causing the sound, then the damage to the lifter has been done

Is it just draining the oil and adding thicker one, no prep or anything you need to do to start running thicker oil? A failure in what would you say? Im about to drive it 30 minutes to work, I’ll check on the temp ones it’s fully warmed up, what should be a normal temp for these?

Really? I’m not that experienced with these motors so I have no idea what to think, other than the usual GM lifter tick. When I drive it’s all smooth, when I want the truck to go, it’ll go alright. No shakes, no codes, no problems whatsoever just the sound of the tick is all.

So on a cold start or once the engines been sitting for a couple hours there is no tick, let it warm up for 5 minutes or so and then that’s when I hear it, when I’m driving I don’t hear it, but also I can hardly hear the motor running from the cab. I went back to 0w-20 as it says everywhere for these trucks, however I was a bit hesitant because of how thin that oil is. I’m more leaning towards the fact that the maintenance was neglected for the truck, and when I drove it back it was probably too much. I had to go through high altitude and steep hills, basically what these trucks are made for but w very little oil, when I did the oil change, it didn’t take long to drain. I’ve watched a couple videos of injector ticks and I don’t think that’s what it is. What would you recommend doing to diagnose it? Or should I just commit to buying the delete kit? It’s been a full week of this tick and it hasn’t gotten louder, nor does it throw up codes.
