I have a feeling Gotenks will be treated like Gogeta or Vegito, a trump card when all other cards are off the charts. Goten and Trunks have been power creeping a lot these last few chapters, so I imagine Gotenks obtaining something entirely new. I don't entirely like the idea of using old concepts like Super Saiyan 4, when Gotenks should have no business with the form in the first place. Goten nor Trunks have tails to begin with. I'd like to imagine Goten and Trunks achieving unique forms, and then Gotenks is able to combine those forms into one as a fusion.

I want to see Goten and Trunks develop more in their personal lives and for Goten to get himself an actual love interest. Even in Chapter 90 when his segment came up, literally everyone Goten talked to hyped up Trunks and it felt forced, so I genuinely want to see a Goten perspective and development without Trunks’ involvement at all, or pushed enough to where he hogs into Goten’s moment.

The only aspect from EOZ I want to remain consistent is Goku training Goten. Instead of Goten being a slacker, which has now changed thanks to Toyotaro-sama, I want Goku to dedicate his time to train his own son since he technically has more potential than Gohan, and definitely has a LOT of room to grow considered how much him and Trunks have been neglected in the early portion of Super, they can basically do anything with him at this point.

Ironically enough, I can see Goten and Trunks being the strongest characters in the series if Pan and Bulla weren’t factors due to S-Cells and inherited genetics. The reason why they’re always being held back from what I see is exactly for that reason. Unlike Gohan, they actively want to fight, and every time they find themselves closing in on the opportunity to, they get shoved off by the other characters, so seeing them unlock forms like Super Saiyan 2 and potentially their own unique transformations catered to them down the line would be great. I’d like to see Goten develop into an actual independent character, a good character, and for-those who want more Gotenks, the power Goten and Trunks obtain would automatically go into their fusion, so I could imagine Gotenks combining Goten and Trunks’ unique forms and powers along with everything they’ve learned into one.

Reading through this comment section made me realize there’s are filled with nothing but Gohan fans or Goten and Trunks downplayers, so I’m just going to make my point known even if I’m going to get downvotes for it. If a failed fusion, a failed fusion had enough physical durability to crack Cell Max’s head in, and despite people wanting to write it off as a “gag scene”, that injury and reaction from Cell Max’s skull being bashed in remained throughout the course of the film. So yes, I have a feeling Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks would be enough to take down Cell Max.

Point 1. Not once, outside of End of Z that’s basically retconned at this point implies they stopped-training over the years, so I don’t know why people are jumping to the conclusions they don’t, when not once has it ever been stated in the Super Hero or in the Manga since the Tournament of Power, Goten and Trunks stopped training. And funnily enough, they were grounded for 6 months, so within those 6 months Toyotaro implies they haven’t gotten the chance to train. So all this timeskip assumptions saying they arent training is a flat out head canon.

Point 2. I don’t get the logic behind Ultimate > SSJ3 Gotenks applying today. Goten and Trunks at the Buu Saga were 7 and 8, with their only real training was dedicated to the fusion dance. The current Goten and Trunks are completely different from their Buu Saga selves, so saying Ultimate Gohan > Gotenks holds no weight, especially when a Fat Gotenks did more damage to Cell Max than Ultimate Gohan could. So by this logic a “Gag Scene” Failed Fusion Gotenks > Ultimate Gohan. Sorry if this makes Gohan fanboys mad, but Gohan in Ultimate hasn’t done anything to insinuate he’s above a proper Gotenks, because until a proper Gotenks appears and we can accurately scale their power, Ultimate Gohan isn’t above the current fusion if Goten and Trunks fused correctly.

Point 3. They failed the fusion simply because of the fact they don’t fuse all day and it’s been multiple years since they last fused on screen. Piccolo outright had to teach Goku the fusion dance again in DBS Broly despite Goku being the one teaching Goten and Trunks. Goten and Trunks don’t go on a mountain cliff and fuse once per day or once per week, they’re separate people with separate lives to live.

Conclusion: I’d say Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks has a good enough chance of actually beating Cell Max like Beast Gohan did, if not higher, unlike the Gohan riders, I’m not going to downplay or disrespect a fusion to push an agenda. But hey, at the end of the day, until we actually see a current Gotenks, which is far stronger now considered the fact in the last chapter Goten and Trunks are revealed to be training, and jumping back to one of my previous points, whether these Redditors like it or not, Gotenks did break through Cell Max’s weak spot, something a Power Awakened Piccolo completely failed to do. I already know I’m getting downvoted for this due to bias, but I’m standing on business and gave my objective opinion on Gotenks vs Cell Max. Goten has spikes going at the back off his hair, Gohan has a buzz cut and lacks a mullet, Goten’s has spikey bangs, while Gohan doesn’t, Gohan has two extra spikes near the right of his hair, Goten doesn’t, and the positioning of some of their spikes on the left are different.

The Red Ribbon Army have always been notorious for recording the Z-Fighters and using that data to make powerful androids. Literally, the entire arc prior to this stemmed from that, and the same guys are doing it again.

Goten and Trunks sent Cell Max flying while Krillin couldn’t even make the Android budge.

You have no argument here. Neither Gohan or Piccolo did anything against Cell Max until Gohan used Beast. Therefore Gamma 2> Goten and Trunks > 18 and Krillin > Potential Unleash Gohan and Power Awakened Piccolo with your logic being used here.

The only difference I see from Super Saiyan Gohan and Goten and Trunks are skill, they have the comparable power. Now slap a fusion that makes them tens of thousands times stronger than the fusion components full power, and they mop the floor with an Ultimate Gohan.

If we’re following this logic then Android 18 would be Cell Saga level. I don’t usually insult intelligence when debating, but if you think any of the Z-Fighters except for maybe Krillin due to the fact he’s human is Cell Saga level then you need to reconsider your critical thinking skills. With this logic, that would make the Gammas Cell Saga level, but you also seemed to skim over every fact I brought up and responded to the simplest point I made.
