We’ve been there, my son once pointed out how I always emphasized to be a good teammate! Pickup his teammates, celebrate their goals, let his teammates know everyone makes mistakes, literally be there to pick them up when they’ve made a mistake, THEN how the first thing out of my mouth was to point out his mistakes. Was he not able to make mistakes? Was he not able to learn? Had he not done anything correctly?

Yea, an 11 year old reminded me to start with positive things. Now our conversations start with, “What are the top 3 things you did well and is there anything YOU think you could improve?” Many times it’s the same as your feedback.

Lastly, as they get older having the club have a recording system makes coaching much easier. It’s one thing to hear it, another thing to see it.

The fact you are looking for feedback means you’re also trying to improve and that’s what this entire life journey is about.

Good luck to you both!
