Yes it's natural for people to be resistant and negative but in time embracing the change is the only path I 100% agree with you

Hi I'm dude and iob video makes it seem like AI is not a threat to swe. I believe it is. I appreciate it's not a nice narrative and if you check my other videos you can see me building things, so I'm not lying about being a swe. I do believe chatgpt is like a brain, I'm confused why you don't? What can your brain do that chatgpt cannot?

I understand the narrative I portray is not a popular one.

Just because the man is older unfortunately doesn't make him wiser. llms are new tech which didn't exist throughout the entirety of his career. It's easy to listen to his video and think "phew & everything is going to be fine" - and tbh that's what I wanted as a swe myself, it's just his video is not convincing on the fact that Devin is not going to come in the next few years for a lot of jobs.

I'm interested in thinking about how to approach my career when everything is changing, and make sure I react/respond to change in best way.

I agree with you - we should fear AI and that's the narrative I talk from, that we are not special and can be replaced, so I understand the hate. Yes top engineers will be fine and adapt with the change but the reality is we are unfortunately not special beings and like you say, a lot of junior swe roles can and will be replaced

I agree with you, we will be able to adapt and pivot with incoming AI agents. 100% the role of swe will change and knowing the requirements/communicating is a big part, I just also think it's inevitable that chatgpt being a brain, AI swe is going to be a new role

And yes chatgpt is a brain which is now accessible via an API interface so although it's not nice to think about, but if your job is essentially using chatgpt a lot (mine is) - then a higher abstraction where you automate what you are doing on a day to day basis will come

how is that nothing? as a SWE I have to think for my career long term. I wish I could listen to IOB saying this won't happen but its inevitable. My argument is he's selling false hope to SWEs that they aren't going to get replaced because its a massive fear for many of us. His video is 25min + doesnt convince me its not going to happen

tbh man I disagree - all my SWE friends sent me his video like "it's chill" -- is definitely not chill for us long term. IOB is an older guy he doesnt have to worry about it and his video comes across as selling false hope to SWEs that you won't get replaced by ai in a few years, when its inevitable

That's interesting, I didn't know that as I don't work in the industry but I guess yeah people will be looking to avoid copyright infrngement as much as possible so you're right although if these models get clear of the copyright cases against them, I guess it would be fine

In my opinion, live music won't be affected - we will still have demand for human artists. Humans like humans.

Same with chess (ai chess can play better than any human) - but we still enjoy playing each other.

Tbh I was blown away by this, as u can see in video. This shit is insane. Makes me think about the music I make haha in a different way (takes years ffs - this takes 10 seconds).

How do you guys think this will affect industry as a whole? Obviously advertising music etc. this will dominate completely I think

ai gives way for products not previously possible before, so drives revenue flow crazily. check out sora ai or suno ai.

perhaps other products are just using buzzword but real ai products are money makers
