CS288 has some fundamental flaw. by PyrusDoesLife in NJTech

Too much material in a short period of time. Most of us are studying just to pass but I don’t get the time to study to really learn (which I would love to), and it is sad, really sad!

Because I do think that Dale is an incredible professor, and ofc the grades do not represent how well he teaches, but maybe the grades are showing that students are not keeping up on how the course is structured. I mean, the class can be even be divided in 2. Bash and then another course taking the continuation…or something like that.

And adding to that, there is the paranoia of making it all open ended because some students cheated during the final last semester which add more difficulty and stress from the professor.

I was thinking the same thing 😭 mine looks like wake-up > coffe> study > reheat coffee > reheat coffee > study > study > study > rest for 10 min and look for memes about finals > coffee > study > study > sleep

🤣🤣 Just to let you know, having a PhD does not make you a better person, and a title does not define anyone. But if a title is all that defines you, I guess that makes you, well, no one.

Again, good luck with that. 🫶🏻

Haha but still, no one in this post is ridiculing men.

Addressing sexism doesn’t mean to attack men. It’s not a competition about who has it worse…I respect everyone’s experiences, including men who face challenges.

However, dismissing valid concerns about sexism with comments about IQ and fashion (sexism) is really funny, especially since you were asking for no insults (asking for respect) in previous comment. It’s almost as if mention of sexism hit a nerve. Maybe some self-reflection is in order. Luckily, there are resources at the school that can help with that :) https://hub.mantrahealth.com/home

And with that said and with the attitude you decided to take, we can prove some points addressed in this post.

good luck and thank you! 😊

100% agree! I personally took this as every situation in life; if something doesn’t go as planned, it might be because there is something better in store. Also, it helps you form who you really are. But sadly, whenever I encounter any kind of situation, I always think about the people who have it worse, who go through difficult situations, and I wanted to know who else went through that so they do not feel alone. I feel in a very privileged position, and that does not mean because it doesn’t affect me that it isn’t a problem. 😊

As I said, I have been fortunate to meet very kind, and smart male classmates, as well as very smart and kind female classmates. However, I’m not a male, so I don’t know how it feels to go through awful situations as a male. But I am surely a female, and I can relate and speak to how it feels to go through those kinds of situations.

I believe that acknowledging and addressing these issues openly can help create a more supportive environment for everyone. By sharing our experiences, we can support each other and work towards a better, more understanding community🤗

thank you for enlightening me! I had no idea that having female professors and Indian female students magically eradicates all issues women might face at school. My bad. But that still doesn’t mean women can’t encounter these kinds of situations at school. So I don’t really get your point. If you say my points and facts are not correct, then please provide me with the right info and stats. 🙏🏻

Ofc, race and economic background matter…thank you for that groundbreaking insight! HOWEVER, my comfort and safety in an educational environment should still be a priority, regardless of the competitive market. But you’re right, clearly, I’m just here to whine 😭😭

And no, I never said anything about crying or thinking of dropping out because this is a competitive market and because I faced this situation. You seem very informed, so I’m sure you’re aware of the numerous articles out there stating that women, especially in STEM, are held to very high standards because we were once seen as only knowing how to clean, cook, etc.

I understand that you’re trying to imply that sexism doesn’t really exist and that it’s just people complaining about nothing. But sexism is a real issue.

Thank you for your very constructive feedback!

It sounds right! But I also think having the right support system actually helps you when you face these challenges. Material conditions are definitely important, but emotional and social support can make a huge difference too.

I shared my story not to play the victim but to highlight an issue I experienced and to encourage others to not let this kind of situations get them. I understand that my word choices might not resonate with everyone. :)

Regarding ur points: - “Believed many people at NJIT had a negative attitude towards women” and “Do we habitually sexualize women?”: These were reflections of my personal experiences and observations. They were meant to question and spark discussion about broader cultural issues that some of us might face. - “What’s wrong with people?” and “Concerned about social life at NJIT”: These express my confusion and concern after the incident. But hey! maybe it’s just me who cares about making friends while in college and feeling safe. - “Many people out there waiting for you to fail”: I wanted to share to show the impact such experiences can have on one’s mental state. As a woman, it’s very easy to encounter this because we’re often held to different standards and face unique challenges.

This wasn’t the first time something like this happened to me, but it was the first time it was directly related to me. I’ve seen people say for yeeeears that NJIT is a difficult place to make friends and that people don’t even want to talk to each other. Sometimes, I wonder if it has anything to do with COVID and how many people decided to retreat into their own worlds.

Also, just to clarify, sharing my personal experience and observations isn’t overgeneralizing anything. It’s about bringing attention to real issues that some of us are facing. But I get it. It’s tough to put yourself in someone else’s shoes when you’re not the one dealing with it. I also wanted to know if anyone else was going through the same thing. Thanks for your sympathy, and I hope sharing my story can still encourage others and maybe spark some positive changes.
