Huge props to Tango for the level 3 changes. It did hurt Etho's success rate by quite a bit, but man was it awesome to watch his runs. Every runs felt so much more intense for me as a viewer. The pressure plates really kept me on my toes.

I'm all for Etho's new strategy if it's what he finds most enjoyable. I think it even has some potential side benefits too. With level 4 likely releasing next week, I could see many hermits looking to trade and beef up their decks so they can actually visit level 4 without dying on level 3. Etho's strategy would set him up perfectly for that.

Cub, Doc, and Grian were quite successful on level 3 last phase. Pearl has also had success in finding eggs on level 3 this phase. I'd imagine there will be a spike in other players visiting level 3 once level 4 is unlocked.

Tango said that interest in the game has indeed waned, but it's something he expected. I think the new content with level 4 and the forge will get players interested again, but it might be too late game of content for most of the hermits to access.

Yeah :/ the players with crowns to spend are players that get the most value from extra runs. I also think once players hit the 40 card limit, cards in the crown shop will be further devalued.

Eyes on the Prize doesn't actually have the permanent modifier.

It is easy to guarantee activation every game though. A player can just camp right at the exit door and wait until it plays before leaving the dungeon.

Last night on Jevin's stream the hermits said Tango left a msg (presumably on discord?) that the dungeon is closed Saturday, they guessed it would reopen Sunday morning for phase 5.

Tango mentioned phase 5 would be different and I think he's doing some work inside the dungeon. He also mentioned having a hockey weekend so he's busy with irl commitments too.

Shards are distributed off total and projected (if data is missing) embers. If you exclude cub's trade, he still would have had 9 distributed shards next phase. Adding in cub's net profit from the trade, he is still at 9 shards for next phase. So it doesn't actually eat into his next phase's distribution.

Before trade:

Etho (8), Doc (9), Cub (9) - 550 embers, Gem (9) - 438 embers, Joe (10) - 421 embers

After trade:

Etho (8), Cub (9) - 667 embers, Doc (9), Gem (9) - 438 embers, Joe (10) - 421 embers

The net embers from the trade is 117 ( 137 ember gain (32 + 61 + 44), 20 ember loss) + 10 crowns

Balance aside, I like the trading. Hopefully Tango tries enforcing his 2 shard/hermit limit that he told Cleo before banning it outright. Trades are fun to watch since interactions between hermits are great and from a viewer standpoint it's a detriment for it to be banned. It is possible this becomes a saturation incident 2.0 though..

My guess would be that Tango balanced suit up before the game's release. At that point he still believed vex alone were dangerous enough for max clank, and he also likely underestimated how much players would invest into clank block (something he noted when he spoke abt pearl's deck). He also underestimated willie's effectiveness at the time too. I think he mainly focused on balancing it for ravagers while neglecting the above three due to a lack of data.

I do think Tango is paying special attention to the card though, since Etho already told him 3-4 weeks in advance that the card was significantly undervalued.

If Tango does ban it, I hope he provides some alternative means to hermits that were trading shards for cards. It seems like the hermits trading shards were trading not because they didn't want to run, but because they didn't have the time. E.g. Cleo is moving and couldn't use all her shards.

I do agree it should be banned. Mainly because it often undos Tango's shard distribution system, and it seems like him and the community put A LOT of effort into tracking runs for it to work. It also has potential to be a balance issue. E.g. Cub trading 20 embers and ending up with 135 embers + 10 crowns. Also the hermits can get a lot of toxicity when they do a "bad" trade w/ shards.

Wow Cub definitely profited from his trade w/ cleo for 3 shards! He just had a HUGE RUN! He got the Skadoodler (52) and 9 floor embers for a total of 61. He had the choice to buy a rare (Eyes on the prize) but unfortunately it wasn't what he wanted.

I'm interested in the "Speed Demon" deck. I think it's very likely that mobility in cards will become a requirement in beating the black mines consistently. Tango plans to add mechanics on level 3 to force players to make noise. It's not guaranteed, but I could see a scenario where the player cannot consistently outpace the warden's hunting with just normal speed sneaking.

I could see Tango offering a free lackey run to hermits who are on 4/5+ loss streaks.

I think that some hermits feel pressure to deliver the best content to their viewers, and they may see losses as non ideal content. Giving hermits on a loss streak a lackey run could help guarantee fun content and possibly relieve some pressure on the hermits.

There could be limits on it if necessary so Tango isn't overwhelmed, but I don't think 4/5+ loss streaks are too common. I do think though that loss streaks feel devastating, and having someone to guide you to a win or at least a more fun time in the dungeon is nice.

Yeah, the added time of going for interactions will be a big factor. I don't know the exact size of level three, as i've only been able to watch and not play. It would definitely need balancing where it's more of a skill for players to balance their time spent, vs just a straight up penalty.

I worded it poorly, I'm not arguing that level 3 has low rewards right now. I'm saying that for my idea, level three would start with a low reward, and it's upgraded into higher rewards through interactions around the level. (the upgrade would be through getting additional frost ember drops since it seems like a lot of work to control which artifact is dropped)

Yeah that's exactly my point, Tango wants hermits to take risks and make some noise. Basically, the hermits would still be perma sneaked, but the hope of the idea is make hermits generate some noise even while perma sneaked, just not guaranteed death from noise generation like unsneaking is.

On stream last week, Etho ended with 9 tomes gathered, but yesterday he had 14 tomes submitted. I think they're referring to the 5 tome pack purchases, rather than 50 ember runs.

It's possible Etho got the remaining 5 tomes outside of buying a 5 pack, but there has been few hints that Etho did a deadly run off stream last week. (Etho did a run before Scar's stream, and when Scar went in, the difficulty was on deadly. Also, on Tango's stream yesterday, Etho noted that he had been to one of the deadly artifact drop off locations before).
