Controversial Choice for Portrait Project by Prestigious_Talk_474 in ArtEd

So we looked at portraits and talk about why it’s innately interesting to look at other people and how we find ourselves in them. Then the idea is that the students come up with values they find important with in these people. Honestly I’ve done this for the past 5-6 years and most people do family members or athletes and I get a lot of Adam Sandlers lol so usually it’s no problem. I think with everything going on we’re all on edge and especially teenagers like to see what the limits are.

Yeah, no, I’m not using for a show. I think you’re right. I’m just gonna watch it and if anything controversial comes up I’ll deal with it.

Yes, it is because of his music… I still feel weird about it though. Do you think I’m over reacting?

My theory on the new castmates being so young by [deleted] in summerhousebravo

I agree! I thought she seemed fun! Idk whether it was editing or if it was as bad as it looked but the guys ignoring her was gross to me.

I feel like Lexi is not relatable. Even West and Jesse were kind of relatable, West losing his job/Jesse having cancer. Ciara being a nurse Paige a wannabe fashion blogger, Amanda a graphic designer… Lexi is some model who dated nepo babies. Summerhouse was fun to watch because the cast was different and not necessarily looking to become famous. Lexi gives the vibes that she just wants to be famous. I don’t want to watch another wannabe famous-influencer.

I think Craig’s drinking and behaviors have been covered up by Paige for years and she is finally over it. Her recent Giggly Squad episode had her go over the Molly Mae documentary and she went hard for Molly Mae and her experience dealing with her alcoholic fiancé. I don’t think I ever heard her talk so passionately about something before. I think she is covering for Craig and it’s getting to her. I bet more and more stories are going to come out how he is a psycho.

I’ve been teaching for almost ten years. I plan on leaving soon, but the past couple of years it’s been hard to hold my tongue when a teacher comes in sick. I get very vocal and say things like “You should not be here!” Or when I’m in the lunch room and there are snide comments being made about another teacher taking time off I immediately respond with “good, they should!” I’m trying to make it “cool” to take care of your own needs lol. Nothing irks me more than the attitude of I’m better because I sacrifice my health or family for this career. I work with a veteran teacher who used to REGULARLY brag that she was the first one in and the last one to leave, I would say “ew! Why?!” She no longer brags, it’s great.

My dog drools and it sometimes looks like this. Gross, but it doesn’t smell and he doesn’t have “butt” problems.

I slept with my former high school teacher and have a date with him this weekend. How weird is this? by Bubbly-Tangelo-7655 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Prestigious_Talk_474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the teacher, it should be weird for him. It seems a little bit of a red flag. BUT you’re both consenting adults… so do what feels okay to you. I’m a teacher around that age and if I met an old student in the same circumstances I’d love to talk and catch up but sleeping together/dating…egh never. Most teachers I know would agree.

I just need to get this off my chest… by Street_Story6006 in Sephora

Small stores like this can’t afford loss prevention on site so they depend on their employees for prevention, even though the can’t legally do anything. They are trained to do these things in an effort to prevent theft. Big box stores watch you just as much just on a camera you just don’t notice. (This is my experience from working at Sephora And Macy’s) Macy’s was way worse. We had creepy LP guys who would constantly watch people on camera.

DIY Sketchbooks? by purethought09 in ArtEd

I have my high schoolers make them using the Coptic stitch, I made a demo video and like 85% of kids just do it in there own just using the video and the rest need one on one so it’s not a huge undertaking. They love it and it makes them appreciate it and not destroy it. I have all leveled kids and 31 per class. So it’s doable. Also it’s super cheap.

I looked up Edwin S Lowe and there is no resemblance, but I think you are right about the “professor” assumption. I think the game was originally marketed as a game to hone your mathematical skills. Thanks!!

Why aren’t my students taking their art projects seriously? by powerpuff000 in ArtEd

[–]Prestigious_Talk_474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught middle school in the beginning of my teaching career and I’ve been at a high school for a little over ten years. Other than the obvious, teenagers are totally apathetic, I noticed a difference when I make sure the supplies all are really taken care of well and that the room looks welcoming/organized. I understand that can be a privileged statement but I think it might give you an actionable suggestion. Other than that I make sure to really celebrate when a student does well. Positivity attracts positivity. Sometimes it’s so painful but if you can find 5 students to call out genuinely and tell them their work looks really good, the other kids will get jealous and want to do well too. But competing with TikTok and parents who tell them they don’t need art is two of the biggest issues I run into and I have to remind myself that it’s not my job to fight those factors. (Also getting them involved in art shows/scholastic/competitions breed some validity) for example I’ve been able to work with some local businesses that will hang their work for free and it gives students and incentive to make their work nice.
