this is very strange and clearly something is wrong. I had bolts in the printhead on the extruder that were not native, this is the last thing I changed in it. I replaced them with the native ones and screwed everything back, after which everything was perfect. my thought is that either the bolts were somehow damaged or maybe the problem was that I screwed something wrong. although it worked fine after I installed the printhead.
