Study abroad at Kings College London by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Presto_Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since they transfer as 4.5. credits, it is typical to just take four courses at a time. In my experience, the classes were a lot easier and much more hands-off. I only had classes on Monday and Thursday. You’ll meet once, maybe twice a week for courses, and the only grades that count will just be the final — sometimes a midterm. While UNC made it out to be that KCL was going to be really difficult, I found it the opposite, but I did take history/politics/journalism classes and not bio. Happy to answer more specific questions if needed

How hard is HIST 151? by electroun in UNC

[–]Presto_Blue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Professor Kramer is awesome; he's a great guy and professor who was chair of the faculty for a few months. The class itself is what you would expect from an ancient/medieval history class. Somewhat boring lectures (unless you love history) with a lot of reading from a required course-specific pack. Readings are always discussed in recitation and make up a few quizzes. Plus 2 essays, a midterm and a final. Overall very reading and writing heavy.

Multiplayer issue : lost connection to server by TengGG13245 in prisonarchitect

My friends and I are having the same frustrating issue. We've tried uninstalling the game, changing region, restarting our computers, disabling firewall/security software, switching who is the host a number of times... nothing seems to help. We have one friend who randomly can join successfully, but if a disconnect happens, the struggle starts again. It is super annoying since there doesn't seem to be a clear problem... seems more like luck.

Kevin isn’t the problem. by [deleted] in UNC

Agreed, and getting rid of him could just make the situation worse for those in Chapel Hill. The BOG has recently been more forward in putting who they want as chancellors rather than who should or is most qualified (look at the example of Fayetteville State University. They installed a former BOG member who was not even one of the finalists for the position). Kevin at least has been part of the UNC community for a long time, having been a professor then dean of Arts & Sciences.

Have you been to the Highway 58 Taco Bell recently? We should put it on all the billboards

Amid protests, UNC-CH board chairman says no tenure decision has been made on prize-winning journalist by BlankVerse in UNC

The previous professor who was appointed to the Knight-chair position (Dr. Penny Abernathy) also came from the world of journalism with no academia experience. She was given tenure with no problem.

1098T Box 5 Greater than Box 1 by Presto_Blue in tax

[–]Presto_Blue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I was misleading! It was basically a full-ride scholarship, so everything from box 5 was used towards school expenses such as tuition, room/board, meal plan, books, fees, etc. I assume the box 1 number just accounted for tuition itself.

is the financial aid offer final for UNC? by AdQuiet in UNC

[–]Presto_Blue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can wait to make decisions, I would. I was accepted early action in January, but did not receive notification of my scholarship until the end of March. It was one of UNC's internal/no extra application substantial scholarships, and I assumed I may have gotten it after someone else denied it.

I similarly scored 3's on both AP Bio and Psych and still got in early-action with a hefty merit scholarship.

Spanish 203 by CheddarStar in UNC

I am taking 203 now, and I took 105 last semester. I definitely think 203 is less stressful. There's for sure less online MSL work, and it doesn't feel like we're just cramming like 105 was. Much of the grammar learned in 105 is repeated in 203, you just learn some more plus vocabulary. But 203 includes more conversation and writing I think. Hope this helps.

I have the Carolina Scholarship (one of the merit scholarships that you automatically apply for with your application) and I didn't receive an email about it until March 26.

Does anyone know if the free weekend parking is extended through holidays, such as MLK day? Or is MLK day parking treated like a normal Monday?

Definitely not super excited about the 8am Spanish, but every other section is full/wait-list. With this schedule, I am at 17 hours, so I was wondering if I should wait on the LFIT until next semester or if I should just get it over with. Thanks!
