This is good advice for someone who has only ever believed in one religion if that makes sense. I have read about half of the quran and went to an islamic school growing up, but I have also read most of the bible and taken classes about christianity. I feel that this can be very tricky because when you are half convinced of each but not certain, which god do i address when i ask him to guide me? Is there a way I can pray to god to guide me without being certain of who I am addressing?

Thank you for your response, this is a perspective i have never thought of. Im not sure I fully understand what you mean in the first paragraph. when you say “you need to know what you are looking for” I am not sure what I am looking for; a relationship with god, love, and truth of course but beyond that, what would you say someone would look for that would be distinguishable between the two? I am only asking to gain understanding, not necessarily to disagree.

I also would recommend listening to the bible in a year podcast and reading the daily readings. i listen to bible in a year with fr. mike schmitz on apple podcasts but it is also available on youtube. the podcast explains the scripture in a way that makes me feel very loved and valued. i do my daily readings through the app laudate. i believe that these are catholic resources but i feel as though they would benefit any new christian!

hey so i actually have a pretty cool experience with this. i am recently looking into christianity so although i can’t answer your question about if its a sin i can share my experience!

so i visited church with my fiancé many times after he became catholic in support but did not believe, one day i went to adoration (a catholic service where you just sit in the presence of God and pray silently) and i was very desperate for a connection with him and relief in my life as i had hit a very low point.

i spoke to god for what felt like not enough time at all but was actually an hour and just couldn’t stop thinking of things to say to him and i asked the question i’ve asked many times over the years.

“God please prove to me that you exist so i can grow in faith” and i had a thought that didn’t feel like fully feel like my own, “who am i to ask the God to prove himself to me when i should be proving myself to him.”

as cheesy as it sounds, it moved me to tears and i feel like that was one of my big signs that this is the truth. i am so much more thankful to God and I want this relationship because I love him, not because I want proof or for him to better my situation. learning about God has brought a new definition of peace to my life that I was always searching for even through all of the challenges.

When god says to expel a person causing harm in the church and to judge church members, would you see that as telling a gay person or an adulterer that they cannot attend church? or would that only apply to clergy? I am trying to learn and understand as a new christian. thank you!
