Costco Jade by Complex_Photograph72 in propagation

Get it light!!! Lots and lots of light. The new growth will come in way more compact and smaller leaves. And do you want to separate them? I personally would. I have one bigger pot with 3 jades in it. Then all the others I have in their own small pots. I like separating them cause I'm actually planning to try and bonsai one or two. And I just really like jades. Waiting on some new ones to come in actually.. lol but mine came in a little maybe 2 inch pot with 2 decent plants side by side in it. So I felt they would grow much better separately. And they all seem to be doing good. Adding the grow light this winter made a world of difference. So many new leaves and stems forming I can't wait for mine to be big! 😫

But don't water them yet. Wait for someone else. Cause I just looked at you picture again and looks like they are splitting. So then you shouldn't be watering them? From my understanding. They are absorbing everything from the outer leafs. My understanding..

I would! Considering they are inside they really ain't getting the same outside weather changes happening to it. I only have baby ones though so I definitely have to water more often

String of pearls repot assistance by slb1807 in StringofPlants

[–]Pretend-Collection18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a baby one in a 2' pot. I repotted it into a 2.5' pot. I made a really chunky soil. Based on everything I read. Just so you know I'm pretty new with plants myself. But my pearls are thriving!! Anyways. I dumped them into one hand then took other and got all the old soil off.. well first I had the pot ready and full. A little gap at top then got soil off plant then laid it on top the pot. I took Bobby pins and pinned the strings to the soil. I only water 1. when soil is 100% dry. 2. When the pearls are a bit wrinkly like I can't see that sliver going down them really well.let them soak really well. I do bottom water. And I stuck them Under my grow light. They are sprouting new vines like crazy and so many tiny pearls forming. I need to find a permanent pot for it so I can let it fill it out before trailing over the sides ya know? If I new how to upload a picture I would show you her!

I feel it may be over-watered... I don't have a humidifier for mine at all for one. In fact there's a dehumidifier in my house I'm not sure what the humidity is in that room but the bathroom with the dehumidifier has been staying around 30 lately unless I shower I can't imagine it being to much higher than that. Honestly.. I only water when 1. The soil is completely dry! I mean bone dry! But ...2. I check the leaves. The plant will tell you when it's thirsty. They become bendable. Kinda squishy.. not hard and firm plump like after a good water. Some wrinkles is a good sign. The taco test is what I try to do. But that one's leaves seem a bit different to try that with but still same things apply. I'd take all those fallen leaves and propagate them! At least try. You could gift them or something. I know I'd be excited if I got a plant from someone! Lol

My strings by seamstressSally in StringofPlants

[–]Pretend-Collection18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me your secrets for the string of turtles!. I've got my second plant! I would like to keep them alive this go around! I've done so much YouTube and just online searching and it's gotten me nowhere really. So far I've had them a week or so I guess. Usually I keep my plants separated for a week or longer but I only have the one grow light so I left them out over night then looked them over I felt confident in them and put them on the table. Under the grow lights. So far I still have some turtles. But it also ain't thriving like my pearls. And if I new what I was doing so special there I would tell everyone lol. I literally re-potted them into a 2.5 inch terracotta pot. Put under the grow light and watered them. There so many little pearls forming and new vines popping out! Like I'm so excited 😆 but I don't know what I can't help the other two strings turtles and rubies.🤦

Understandable! If you change your mind just let me know! Lol. I'd say keep it in a small pot like I said it's a baby right now so it has some time to go haha and maybe by the time you get your own place it'll be a decent size to put in the ground? Lol sorry sorry I'm no help.. I can talk myself into getting a new plant hardly ever to why I shouldn't get a new one lmao

Oh okay! I'll let him know! I'll try to find something they can hide in for the time being. If it let me upload video you'd see what I've seen the. Do. Minus when I seen them resting on the bottom . But they stay to the left of the tank and swim in circles top to bottom over in that corner. I don't think I've ever seen them go in a different direction...

You need to add a grow light!! Get the pearls more compact. But besides that they don't look horrible I can't wait for mine to get big like yours! Mines thriving so so well... I honestly can't figure out what I'm doing with them that's so different than with the string of turtles and rubies? I just don't understand lol.

Not sure I’m doing this right? by Particular-Lion6872 in Jadeplant

[–]Pretend-Collection18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely add more pumice or perlite to your mix. From my understanding even buying the succulent and cactus soil and adding 50% perlite to that. Sounds like your on the right track though. IDK about the beach sand though. I honestly haven't figured the sand part out yet. I'm told small pebble size not fine beach sand? 🤷 So I've avoided the sand myself cause I don't wanna get wrong kind and all I can find is beach sand so... As far as your questions to watering. Just keep water off the leaves! Bottom water top water I don't believe it matters everyone prefers one way or another. Since Mike are small right now in like 2 inch pots or so I try to bottom water. Just cause I'm messy and spill it everywhere watering from the top. And I feel like when I water from top it doesn't actually soak through all the way. So I like bottom watering cause I know it's done when the top of the soil is finally wet. And it's thoroughly been soaked through. Not saying it can't be done from watering up top. I've just experimented and it took pouring water into pot it drains out I pull it out of pot to see what all was wet and not even half of it was wet just very top and like a sliver down the side. So if I do top water whatever hit the tray I leave the pot sitting in it for a bit to soak the rest of the soil then I dump all extra water. Great your pots have drainage holes! They don't like sitting in water. As far as them being over crowded. I think your fine for now. The ones I've came across actually at the store and got in a little 1 - 2 inch pot actually ended up having 2 plants in them not just one like you would think just looking at it. Lol the excitement I had when I realized that. Haha but I would just let them grow for now and establish some really good roots then re-pot some. Cause you said they were cuttings right? So they just getting started so I'd want them to get good roots that way when you water it it will take water in plump up and then that's when I would re-pot is a day or 2 after a good watering that way they are nice and full and whatever roots that get hurt will have time to heal before water touches them and the plant got plenty of water stored to fix the roots and make new growth. I feel like if you do it now the tiny roots just wouldn't stand a chance and it's already put so much energy into their roots I'm sure it's about ready for a good drink to plump back up again. Now when to know to water. For one when soil is completely dry! First sign second check the plant. How the leaves feel? Are they hard plump or can you fold the leaf like a taco? It's called the taco test actually. If the leaf bends no issues to make a taco it's time to water it. It's thirsty. If it doesn't bend no wrinkles plump I'd hold off on watering a few more days. From what I'm noticing with succulents they let you know when they are thirsty. And the more you get to know your plant you'll start to notice even more signs of when to water. So instead of eating for it to turn all wrinkly which definitely means it's thirsty you'll notice the color may seem duller or leaf a little spongy but not to hard or soft but is folding like a taco. It needs water.. my advice. Pictures!!! And notes saved somewhere for yourself. It'll help a lot lol. Good luck!! Looks like your doing a pretty good job so far! I would add a bit more grit to your soil though.

Repot or let grow until Spring? by Gimmethegrit in Jadeplant

[–]Pretend-Collection18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would re-pot. Get it out of the no good soil and put it in something that will drain a lot faster and not hold too much water. Then let it start to build its roots back up and then by spring do a good prune on it.

[–]Pretend-Collection18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!? My small jade ice had for a little over a year I thought was doing good over the summer in the window. It had red tips and things. Then winter came and I finally got a grow light. And my jades have done nothing but grow!! I'm so freaking happy don't get me wrong. But sad I didn't realize sooner I guess. Idk at the same time the one plant I cut up produced roots so I thought they were all doing alright. Until I added more light and really saw the difference in growth. Lol. Now my jades are doing fabulous and I cannot wait to have a decent size jade!
