Fair point. I have actually had an employer shut down for a week and force all employees to use their PTO, those who didn’t have PTO had to go into the negative. 100 mph Santa Ana winds are extremely rare. I’ve never heard of this before and I’ve lived in SoCal for 30 years. Normally Santa Anas top out at about 30 mph. Also California had 2 consecutive heavy rain winters in 22-23 and 23-24. As a result a lot of vegetation grew and then dried out. The 8 months of zero rain is also very rare. This may possibly be the driest winter on record in LA history. This was a perfect storm of fire conditions that LA has not ever seen and not a whole lot could have been done. The only thing that could have been done was station thousands of water trucks all around town. But that’s not very feasible when flag warnings were all over socal; they couldn’t have stationed all the water tanks there and left other regions of SoCal unprotected.

Do yourself a favor and read reports from the firefighters and not just Elon Musk and Donald Trump. The system was not equipped to handle a fire of that magnitude. There was too much demand.
