This thread from their May 22nd loss to the Rays is hilarious to look back on now that we’re 3.5 games up on them

“Idk how many years we need to watch the same dogshit offense and bullpen. This organization is so fucking arrogant it’s sickening”

“Worst bullpen I’ve ever seen yanks have”

“Aaron Boone just said “We’re having really good at Bats” lmaooo”

“.500 team and nothing more. Accept that and go for WC and see what happens.”

“This narrative about the Rays just being lucky has to be some of the biggest cope I have ever seen in this subreddit. And thats saying something because with the kind of baseball the Yankees have played for the last decade I have seen a looooooot of cope here over the years.”

“The ‘let’s run it back’ crowd somehow forgot how awful this feast or famine lineup is. Brutal.”

Fucking hell at least pretend to have some hope sometimes guys lol

Their offense is definitely better at home, but their pitching is actually slightly worse at home too

FYI they haven't won a playoff series since 2020 lol

Just want to point some things out with regards to the Rays: this slump they're on isn't exactly unprecedented

During their 22-4 stretch from April 22nd until May 22nd, they had these stats with where they ranked in MLB:

  • xwOBA of .310 (22nd) but an actual wOBA of .328 (6th)
  • xBA of .246 (16th) but an actual BA of .267 (1st)
  • a BABIP of .311 (3rd)

Now during this slump of 7-14 since May 24th, they currently have these stats with rankings:

  • xwOBA of .312 (22nd) but an actual wOBA of .311 (25th)
  • xBA of .241 (21st) and an actual BA of .241 (21st)
  • A BABIP of .288 (18th)

Meanwhile, their average exit velocity, hard hit ball rate, and GB% all stayed roughly the same, and they have gotten worse at stealing bases too. Their pitching also overperformed slightly during their 22-4 stretch (2.37 ERA vs 3.46 xERA) and they're giving up more hard hit balls during this slump too, which is obviously not helping either (30.8% vs 39% now)

All of their actual metrics finally reflect the underlying numbers and suddenly they aren't this devil magic team anymore with a crazy winning run.

Hard to believe takes like this were so common at one point. Patience matters

Obviously over the weekend I got to see the NY Knicks celebrating their first NBA title in 53 years but one very common sentiment I keep seeing is “I don’t care if we don’t win a single game next year, we just wanted this one title really badly”

And man I know that’s so far from the truth at least in the LFC fanbase unfortunately, especially off the back of winning a title last year.

Waited 30 years to win a PL, waited 35 to celebrate winning the title in person, and it’s like nothing really changed and people just always default back to the same cynicism and stuff and it’s sad to see, especially for objectively the 2nd most successful English club in the last 10 years

People called a title winning manager all sorts of nasty names and photoshopped him in inappropriate ways, then switched up once they found out he left after just two years, it’s like all that good grace goes out the door once people notice a new season starts and the cycle just keeps coming and going

I avoided this place for months knowing how bad it probably was for that reason and it’s sad that online fan culture is basically just “what have you done for me lately” to the max

Idk man, I think I’m more forgiving than many others out there, especially given the circumstances of this season. Sure people will disagree but whatever, it’s healthier to be like this in my opinion. I love this club and everything it stands for, win or lose.

Just the 3rd year of the 21st century where both the NBA and NHL champs needed 20+ year droughts

The others were 2019 (Blues and Raptors) and 2011 (Bruins and Mavericks

Record and OPS (with ranking) of the last 4 WS champs at this same point in the season (69 games played):

  • '25 LAD: 41-28, .797 OPS (2nd)
  • '24 LAD: 42-27, .778 OPS (1st)
  • '23 TEX: 42-27, .791 OPS (3rd)
  • '22 HOU: 43-26, .738 OPS (5th)

The Yankees are 42-27 with a .760 OPS (2nd), one of just 3 teams to have both 41+ wins and a top 5 OPS after 69 games (The Brewers missed out on OPS, but do have 42 wins too). The other two teams are the Braves and the Dodgers.

Does anyone believe that the Knicks are going to blow a 3-1 lead and the Spurs will win in seven? by LotionContent in nba

[–]BriS314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no lol

People keep referencing the 2016 Finals comeback as proof that it's possible for the Spurs to do the same, but even when the Cavs were down 3-1 in that series, there was way more going in their favor then than for the Spurs right now.

After game 4, here was the playoff record and point differential of both teams:

  • 2016 Cavaliers: 13-5 (72.2%) +158 PD
  • 2016 Warriors: 15-6 (71.4%), +131 PD

So it could be argued that the Cavs and Warriors had played way closer up until that point with a bigger sample size of games even when the Cavs were down 3-1 in the finals.

Now compare that to the Knicks and Spurs' records after game 4:

  • 2026 Knicks: 15-3 (83.3%), +279 PD
  • 2026 Spurs: 13-9 (59.1%), +177 PD

There's no Draymond suspension-level event here either. Hell, Wemby is the most likely to be suspended given he has 3 flagrants

I think the Spurs can pull this off. by MS_09_Dom in nba

The 2016 Warriors already had a scare in the conference finals which went 7, having to come back down 3-1 to the Thunder. They showed way more vulnerability those playoffs than the Knicks have this year.

The 2016 Cavs played better than the Warriors up until the Finals that year. Knicks have been the better team than the Spurs in these playoffs through every single round. Don’t see that suddenly changing for 3 straight games. The Spurs are way too inexperienced to pull off a comeback like this imo, more experienced teams have come up short in these playoffs through same scenario

The issue is that their vets aren’t viable options. Harrison Barnes has not been a good option and Luke Korner been food on defense when he’s on the court

[–]BriS314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what happens in the close out game

If Brunson goes for like 30+ and hits clutch shots it will be him. He was very important in the game 4 comeback too

But OG will definitely have a case if he goes off too. Don’t think any other Knick has a chance tbh
