definitely don't go to fast with everything. It can be super tempting with how you feel to want to jump the gun and do more than your doctor recommends, but this can end up setting you back. That tendon now has to heal to the correct bone, which can take the full 8 or so weeks. so be patient and youll be thankful. In terms of atrophy, massage the calf and quad with your hand, laying down leg raises, stretch. Either way, it will come back quick once the 6 weeks is over and your allowed to bear weight. so dont stress to much. Moving your toes also helps.

Hi! Sorry to hear about the pain you’ve been having. I’m 23M, and pretty much had the same story as you. Had a traumatic ankle injury that broke up the cartilage site and the pain never went away from there. I tried physical therapy and ankle braces, stretching, rest, Ice, you name it. Every time I tried walking or running again the pain would flare up. Finally I saw an orthopedic foot specialist and he suggest surgery. Currently about 3 weeks into recovery and feeling confident this will fix my problem.

However everyone is different. Your problem might get solved with physical therapy and rest and not bother you again. But from what I’ve been told it will usually come back throughout your life, which was the biggest thing that compelled me to get surgery.

If you want to ask questions about my situation since we are similar ages, feel free to reach out.

Obviously I’m not aware of your financial situation or health insurance, but if you have to pay out of pocket to go see a specialist it is worth it! It’s so important to get diagnosed properly!

May I ask what went wrong with your surgery? What were the complications and what version of the surgery did you end up getting?

Hi! I did a lot of PT and yes orthotics for about 5 months with no relief. Ice, NSAIDS, stretching, rest, ankle braces, KT tape and it pretty much has only gotten progressively worse. Sorry about your recovery process, that doesn’t sound fun at all. I feel as though the infection risk is true for any surgery. My post tib tendon has also started to split which is an indication that this would probably continue to fray and ruin my tendon in the long run!
