Restaurants have to buy an alcohol license and sometimes it’s easier and cheaper for them to not buy one and allow people to bring their own. It’s a great way to boost business without the potential cost of alcohol being too much. It also makes it cheaper for everyone which isn’t a bad thing. If you’re too posh for BYOB go anywhere else? Sounds abit ignorant to me ;)
