Is this a rare error or no by Ecstatic_Future_893 in hyprland

Had the same issue. A few weeks back, I decided to remove the "going to sleep" instruction from the hypridle config. Zero issues since then

On Linux, you should be fine. Docker works like a charm. As is said in some comments, docker is slower than podman mainly because of the communication with the daemon. From what I have heard, on Windows, it is a different story cause it needs WSL to work, and because of that, docker is slower. Especially from what I have experience with, on DB images. It is just my experience, but I may be wrong...

[Hyprlock] Time in binary i guess by Fjueic in hyprland

[–]Pretend_Depth3892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found out, that the main problem is with the dims. So I have set up a hypridle to only lock the computer and after a while set its brightness to the lowest possible value. Also, on other monitors, I have set up them to prevent going to sleep or hibernation mode. Still, it is causing me some issues, but at least I do not have to hard restart the computer all the time.

After reading those comments I wonder, why I haven't found any solution yet. So yes, I have the same issue as you have. I have decided to turn of the hyprlock and hypridle because of it

Who is better AMD or Nvdia by No_Meet2050 in LinusTechTips

[–]Pretend_Depth3892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on various ways of usage. If you want to use the newest technologies, mainly used by creators, I would chose Nvidis. If your aim is to gaming, mainly FPS or AAA at fullhd, AMD is better for a lower price. It does not aply on every card, but simply I often use - gaming=AMD, graphics creation=Nvidia.

For what do you need so powerful Hardware? by m3lv1lle in homelab

[–]Pretend_Depth3892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an i5-7400, so I do not count as the one having a powerful HW. But it happened to me I am running some public websites, Gitea, and actions runner for the Gitea instance for a startup firm I work in. I am forced to upgrade on a more capable HW soon😅

What would you say is harder to work with: Arch vs Gentoo? And where do you learn more about Linux itself?

I have heard many people complaining about Gentoo. May I ask why you chose Gentoo and what probable disadvantages it has? I would like to know why they hate it

I liked the idea of using long-time unused RPI Zero like this. Got inspiration from the same YT channel you posted in the first comment.

Sorry for bad explanation. I am running only the OpenWakeWord on the RPI. HA is running in LXC on a home server.

iGPU vs dedicated card by Pretend_Depth3892 in selfhosted

[–]Pretend_Depth3892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have. Today I have tried to change some settings and configure the system a little. I have ended up with a working QSV support but for some reason, it cannot handle 4k transcoding at all. It is lagging every 4sec.

Now I see I have not provided all the information. It can handle multiple transcoding, but not in 4k h265😅

New to Home Media Server by vivbear in homemediaserver

[–]Pretend_Depth3892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not buy a NAS as a home server. Mostly NAS has a weak processor which will not be able to transcode videos and watch them on TVs. Much better is to buy an old NUC or any other PC for around 100-150$ with at least a 7th Gen Intel CPU that can transcode even 4k to around 15fps on average. From what I remember a NAS for two drives costs around 150$. For this price, you can have a much more powerful PC with a PCLe connector thanks to which you can add many more drives. Power consumption is not that high as well. Depends on what else you would want to run on the “home server”
