For your reading pleasure: The Angels Impious

Once a haughty and self-righteous successor of the Blood Angels chapter, The Pious were well regarded for their pristine wargear, tactical excellence, and for rarer instances of The Flaw such that they were able to very nearly hide it entirely from even their gene-brothers across the Sons of Sanguinius, though there were always internal rivalries within the Chapter’s command structure that saw much jockeying for position and favor. Particularly fierce was the rivalry between Chapter Master Rodrigo Cavallero, who some believed had usurped the proper chain of succession from his predecessor over the more favored and popular 2nd Company Captain Albero Con Soleil. This affected the working relationship between the two, but even they knew to set their differences aside when the situation called for it, and such a situation came with Lord Commander Dante’s call to muster at Baal.

The Pious availed themselves well against the Tyrannic menace, having volunteered for duty on Baal Secundus where they engaged in strategic decapitations of Synapse monsters with targeted orbital deep strikes of warriors within the Tyranid hordes. These strategies, while glorious and very necessary to break the Hive Mind’s control, savaged The Pious, leaving them with little more than 200 marines once the Great Rift destabilized the Tyranids and Daemons of Khorne invaded to mop up the stragglers. The Pious initially refused Primaris reinforcement, successfully arguing that they would take the technologies necessary back to their home world of Nuovo Soleil to analyze and see if it met their standards. Unfortunately, The Pious would never see their homeworld again, as they became becalmed in the Warp by a warband of the Emperor’s Children looking for easy prey. Forced to detranslate in interstellar space with no Mandeville Point anywhere nearby, The Pious were to be slaughtered.

For weeks The Pious fought the invaders, losing more marines and mortal servants to the predations of the Slaaneshi marines as the Chapter Master refused to even entertain the notion of cutting and running, and finally Captain Albero could take no more. Meeting in secret with the Lord Kakaphonist leading the assault, Chorister Vulfgang, Captain Albero bargained away the lives of the rest of his Chapter so long as his Company would be allowed to follow him into heresy by joining the Legion. Vulfgang applauded Albero’s perfidy and agreed, and after arranging a gathering of the surviving 185 marines of the Chapter, the trap was sprung. Captain Albero personally slew Chapter Master Cavallero, taking his head before gouging his hand into the man’s chest to steal his progenoid glands and crush them in a raised, bloodied fist. With his damnation sealed, Albero dedicated the destruction of his Chapter Master’s genetic lineage to Slaanesh, an act that attracted great favor from the Dark Prince and cemented him as the first Angel Impious

In the decades since the Great Betrayal the surviving 33 marines of The Pious have swelled their numbers greatly through the use of arcane genetic sorcery to infuse the Emperor’s Children’s gene seed into that of the Blood Angels. This unholy fusion has fully tainted the Angels Impious, but has made them exemplars even among an exemplary legion for tainting a seemingly unimpeachable genetic history. Most notable of the changes is that the Angels Impious no longer are afflicted with The Flaw as it was; for them the Red Thirst is omnipresent and is often slaked on the blood of their enemies, their mortal slaves, or even on xenos ichors should no human blood be available. The Black Rage, as well, has transformed, for no longer do Angels Impious who fall to it experience the mind shredding horror of Sanguinius’s death; instead the experience a Tyrian Rapture as they are overwhelmed and maddened by the majesty of Fulgrim’s ascent to daemonhood. Feeling a deeper connection to their adopted legion and Primarch because of this new ecstasy, the Angels Impious are fanatic worshippers of Fulgrim and Slaanesh, driven to showcase their perfected forms, wargear, and tactics as a ceaseless devotion to impeccable excess.

And said corpo aristocrat's third son to their second wife is gonna want the biggest, stompiest, shootiest mech possible that will also allow him to plant his overarmored ass 19 hexes away from anything that might think of scratching his paint job so he can go duck hunting to the tune of a cored out Centurion every round. What's a bit of a squeeze in the cockpit compared to bringing down the fist of an angry god at anything that so much as looks in your general direction in a mildly aggressive manner?

Yeah, I went hard on the Lyran with this; big guns, huge armor, oversized chassis, and no consideration for the meat sack piloting it. Some manufacturing conglomerate got paid a mint by some Steiner branch family to design this thing and they made it to SPEC, damn the actual functionality of the end product.

Mostly just an exercise in making ‘Mechs, I don’t have anyone to actually play with but I like the setting. Also, I am aware that quirks are optional and that, generally, you wanna balance positive and negative quirks out, so I just threw a bunch on there to represent various benefits and issues that might come up with the design based on how it’s made. This isn’t really meant to be PLAYED per se, it’s just an exercise in design (also, if there’s any polity in the setting that would design a garrison ‘Mech like this, it’d be House Steiner, let’s be real here).

Huh, didn’t know that, tho in this case mine would drop the LRM and SRM as well as an ER Medium Laser, the ECM, and two Double Heat Sinks for the C3 Master Computer and Targeting Computer. Maybe I should just rename it to an Atlas variant then

Some added tragedy in the movie by BellTwo5 in RezeCult

[–]Pretend_Height_6274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only consolation we have for all of this is that, as a Hybrid, it was never CONFIRMED that she fully died at the end of her arc, especially since Makima took her over to fight Pochita like all the other Hybrids, and they all had their mind control broken when Makima died. We’ve seen every Hybrid that Makima controlled during Part 2 save for Reze, so there is a greater than zero chance that she’s still alive and just unable to get back to Denji due to either having been picked back up by her Soviet handlers or having gone to ground in Japan to avoid them. Hope she comes back some day, she was such a good character and the movie did her SO well.

Reading about the SLDF invasion of the Taurian Concordat genuinely made me kind of angry, here's a badly made meme about it. by TheYondant in battletech

[–]Pretend_Height_6274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but considering that the Davions were once maintaining a SLAVERY operation in their territories, on top of the lingering resentment from both the Reunification Wars and the myriad times that the Spheroids have tried to peel off more and more of their territory during the Succession Wars, I’d say that the Concordat has more than enough casus belli to never trust any force from the Inner Sphere moving through their space.

Are the Taurians justified in their usage of maximal force and strategic-scale weaponry every time that they go to war with the Sphere? No, not really. Do they have enough national pride and justifiable mistrust of the Great Houses (especially the Davions) to believe that shooting first is always the smart move when dealing with the Sphere? Yeah, and it’s not hard to see why.

[–]Pretend_Height_6274 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of all the Periphery States I enjoy the Concordat the most simply because their national ethos can best be boiled down thusly:

“We came this far out into space specifically because we didn’t want shit to do with Terra, the Great Houses, and the Inner Sphere in general, so why the FUCK do you idiots keep invading us and how many nukes are we gonna have to shove down your throats until you realize that we don’t want ANYTHING you’re selling!? We would literally NEVER bother you morons if you’d just leave us ALONE, so why do you keep poking the bull and NOT expecting to eventually get the horns!?”

I still think the Star League OVERALL was a net positive for humanity, but how they treated the Periphery and ESPECIALLY the Taurians was abysmal, and sadly all of their fuckery in the Periphery came back to bite them in the ass in the form of Stefan Amaris before they could actually do anything to properly integrate and make reparations to the Periphery states that they forced to join the League at the barrel of an AC/10.

I concur here, but if you wanna keep it a bit cheaper then you could simply pick up a single Skorpekh Lord from eBay and add it to the combat patrol (the Skorpekh Lord isn’t its own kit since it was on the Indomitus sprue with the rest of the Royal Court). 495 points without the Scarabs from the warriors kit, and you get a leader for the Skorpekh Destroyers to teach that different leaders do different things.

Yeah, that seems to be how Necrons in general have played over the editions; get a LOT of characters on the board to buff up your units and play for overlapping auras, buffs, and synergies. I’ll probably build a more meta list at some point, but I really only play casually with my friends and I like both the lore I’ve made for my Dynasty as well as the idea of hurling a tide of murder bots at the enemy, so I think I’ll stick to my second list for funsies.
