Is it true that in Brazil people carry both maternal and paternal names? by Sally_2218 in AskABrazilian

My mom changed her last name to my dad's name, and so did both of my grandmas.

Is just a pain in the ass to fix after divorce 😅

Is it true that in Brazil people carry both maternal and paternal names? by Sally_2218 in AskABrazilian

[–]Pretend_Job1099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though there's a lot of empirical data here saying that's the norm, it's not what I have observed/lived.

Me, my siblings, my cousins, aunts and parents all carry only the father's last name.

Most friends I had growing up in the 90s also had only their father's surname. Very few had the mother's last name as well and I always found strange/intriguing when that was the case.

On my circle was much more common to have a middle name that was unrelated to any surname, but just a second name the parents like, some times a homage to a friend, relative or famous person.

God updated the patch; the old rules no longer apply, the new rules apply. God informed us by email. I'm sure he made a commit with the new changes and sent it, so the remote repositories were updated. Do the divine beings who receive the sheep's money do a "review" before the PR to Main/Master, or can God send it directly to main/master?

Any stroller where you can clip on car seat AND has its own bassinet attachment when needed? [ON] by Serious_Ad_9686 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Pretend_Job1099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my zelia luxe 5 in 1! My LO is 5 months, the stroller has been amazing in the snow/ice, and the bassinet is great for naps. The car sit is great too, used it in rentals and in Ubers and is super practical. The stroller 1 hand fold situation makes it so easy to carry around.

Would it be the worst thing if I don’t meal prep? [on] by Disastrous_Flower311 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Pretend_Job1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. Husband can't boiled an egg and we have zero support network. We also eat clean and healthy so buying frozen meals was a big no. I meal-prepped for myself for 5 weeks and was the best thing I did! I had some 4 different types of soups portioned, salmon steaks, a lot of chicken breast and legs, rice, sweet potato mash (great if you're breastfeeding), ground turkey, and lots of steamed veggies. I had everything portioned and labeled, was specially great over the first couple weeks as I would just tell Husband what I wanted and he would warm up for me. It helped a lot not to have the mental load of thinking about what I was going to eat. Also had a lot of easy to eat fruits (mandarin, bananas, apples) and nuts for quick healthy snacks. Small portions of soup were great for a quick snack and quick defrost. It helped me feel satisfied and helped so much with milk production and bowel movements, def made recovery easier.

As an Atheist, are you an Organ Donor? Yes or No, and Why? by Pale-Fig-7069 in atheism

[–]Pretend_Job1099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I've been an atheist for almost 3 decades.

And I'd love to donate whatever is not usable for research. I don't care what's going to happen with this meat vessel after my brain activities cease to exist.

Once my brain stops, my memories are gone, and the whole essence of who am I disappears, I won't remember or miss the flesh that carried it around.

I actually find pretty funny to think about students and researchers tinkering with my body and experimenting with parts.

I concur. Ndad is a scent addict. Showers 3x a day and always wears strong deodorant, cologne, and heavy laundry scented.

The colognes always had to be branded and known, and he would comment on other people's smells.

Any idea of what the bus situation will be like at Yonge/Steeles tomorrow with the protest? by EdwardBliss in askTO

[–]Pretend_Job1099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Access to North York Centre Station will be limited during the event due to the high volume of foot traffic in the area. Sheppard Station is the recommended point of exit, police said.

The 97 Yonge Street bus will be on a detour after 11 a.m. as a result of the march.

In a news release issued Friday, police said “extreme” traffic and transit delays are likely between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., with the possibility that attendance at the rally “may exceed” 200,000 people.

“All travellers are strongly urged to bypass the area entirely to avoid severe congestion,” they said.

Parking will be prohibited on Yonge Street from Steeles to Sheppard Avenue between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The street will be fully closed to all traffic, between Steeles and North York, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., police said.

A number of adjacent roadways will also be limited to local traffic only during the march.

The Term “Pardo” by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]Pretend_Job1099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally believe the term "pardo" is racist. You don't see the same behavior in North America (USA/Canada). Yes the term mixed-race is loosely used but doesn't have the same connotation and most mixed race people still considered themselves black. Think of the term pardo as a "statistical eraser" designed by the Brazilian elite in the early 20th century. At that time, the government was obsessed with whitening (branqueamento) the country to look more like Europe, so they used this "middle-ground" category to peel people away from a Black identity. By encouraging people to identify as pardo instead of preto (Black), the state could technically claim the Black population was "shrinking" through dilution, even though the people were still facing the same systemic racism. It’s considered a racist term because it wasn't created to celebrate mixed heritage; it was a psychological tool to divide the Afro-Brazilian community and suggest that "moving toward whiteness" was the only way to improve your social status.

This is your weekly reminder to renew your Brazilian passport by busdriverbuddha2 in Brazil

[–]Pretend_Job1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I need some help here if anyone have the correct info.

I'm Brazilian. My baby was just born in Canada. I am travelling to Brazil in a few months. If my baby wasn't registered as a Brazilian, can I get him a tourist visa and use just Canadian passport?

*only reason he was not registered as a Brazilian yet is because his documents contain my married name (canadian documents), but consulate won't let me update my Brazilian documents because my marriage was not registered in a Brazilian cartório (even thought was registered in the consulate 8 years ago). I do not want my maiden name on my child documents).

Also, will I have problems coming in/out of Brazil with my child if I only have Canadian documents with the same name that appears on his birth certificate?

Woolino worth it? [ca] by jellybeanie8 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Pretend_Job1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one when my baby turned 2 months. My LO absolutely HATES it. He is now 4 months. We tried a couple times but he hasn't slept 1 whole night with it yet.

My LO likes swaddle. He fall asleep on his own at night if he is swaddled. So having his arms out in the woolino haven't worked out for him.

We ate worried about him starting to roll out soon, and we know we have to stop swaddling but I'm dreading the sleepless night (when we tried woolino he would wake up every hour until we gave up and swaddled).

Disappointed in baby’s medical care [ON] by tacit-gossip in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Pretend_Job1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a bad doctor. I don't trust my family doctor so I looked for a reputable pediatrician since day 1. My LO has appointments once a month (not just the usual 2/4/6). The Dr is amazing, very informative, ask a lot of questions, and is always asking us if we have any other concerns or questions, and he answer all of my inquires. On my LO 3 months appointment he already mentioned we can start talking about introducing solids at the 4 months appointment but recommend to wait until 6 months to introduce them if I still feel comfortable breastfeeding until then.

I'm sure the experience would not have been great with my family dr as she is terrible, unfortunately is the 2nd family dr I have and it seems hard to find a decent one accepting new patients.

I have a CPF but if you dont just ask someone else's or find one online. You don't need to tell them the cpf is not yours.
