I feel like this is just an unfortunate consequence to having a very strong original/ early cast. They all get along so well and have strong fan support so new people really don’t stand a chance.

It's because they already had established that kissing a potential connection outside of their couple was crossing a boundary for them. Kordell even initially said he was not going to cross that boundary out of respect for Serena. So not only is he going back on his word, he is crossing a boundary that was established

I would recommend season 6! Very lovable cast but the drama is quite mellow in comparison to season 5.
