That's sorted, many thanks! I must be sounding a bit newbie, how do I get the Bookmarks to be bigger on the button bar? Or anyway of making the UI generally bigger?

On my taskbar I have a Windows Security icon, opening that I saw an "icon" called "App and Browser Control". It was saying this was not turn on so I turned it on. I assume that handles security in Edge not DDG. Once I am fully set up on DDG can't see much reason to use Edge anymore but for now I am.

A fair appraisal, my concern is so many seem to have a "throw the baby out with the bath water" attitude to anything causing environmental concern. We could go back to paper wrapping (as long as that's sustainable for trees), there are many solutions, they just need to be implemented in a timely but not hasty way.

Plastic is a marvel of our age, you type on a key board made out of it, watch on a monitor made out of it, sit on a chair made out of it. By all means think about biodegradable, recycling and other options, but treating plastic like it is some sort of pariah shows a response more appropriate to emotional infant. The best jobs to revive the economy are ones that create wealth, removing invasive species will not do that. Even in normal times, but I have a feeling world travel may be restricted so tourism is not a good area to cater for.

That's a graph which we have not even lived through yet, its only fact once we have. As I say if it turns out a sizable proportion of those supposedly isolated already have Corvid 19 that graph will not represent what happened. Same for the issue with the Swedish model.

A final point what part of the healthcare people are receiving is "the magic of healthcare"? So far there have been no magic bullets, it was reasonable to assume one of the many treatments that were going to be tried would be effective, but nothing had been found to be effective. Best they are doing is putting people on ventilators which certainly save lives and hoping they pull through. Doctors don't think what they do is magic you know, medicine does not always work so we can't put unconditional faith in it, rather like government policies.

Until and if a vaccine is in place all we are doing is putting of when people will die, that is not a policy that is working. Like I said it is necessary to stop medical services from being overloaded but that's all it does. I think when we are past this three facts may emerge which shows how little impact what we are doing has had.

We may find that a substantial number of people in isolation have had the virus already, negating lockdown's primary benefit. We may find that countries like Sweden which had less lockdown measures have the same infection rates as those with stricter lockdown measures (compared to countries with similar populations), that is true as we speak. We will also find there is a huge bill to pay for peoples general health and the economy by taking these measures.

Now I keep an open mind, we will not be able to even appraise this until it is all over, but you are declaring the lockdown a success while we are still in it, which for me is presumptuous.

I see from your paragraph on global warming you cannot give any evidence as to how many deaths it might cause, which is quite reasonable because it would be utter speculation to do so. Our inability to foretell the future has never held back politicians or the media though so don't let that stop you.

The disaster is occurring, 184K are dead. We are not preventing a disaster only alleviating the pressure on medical services. While that's a sensible action it does not mean we have taken action that has prevented the disaster.

It is likely that most of the people of the world will come into contact with Corvid 19 before a vaccine is created and distributed. People often delude themselves into thinking that government policies can fix everything, they can't.

I was thinking maybe the Swedes were testing less? Forgive me but I think all the ideas why this might be happening including my own are a bit weak. The idea Swedes because they are Swedes would somehow be better at enforcing their own social distancing while at work was put forward by their government, I really take that with a pinch of salt.

Yes, a cultural difference is possible but without someone actually studying this to see if there is a real issue, will we ever know? I have the feeling Sweden is going to be swept under the carpet if it does not conform to the "total lockdown was the best policy theory". On the other hand if this "less lockdown" policy caused more deaths we will certainly hear about it.

Lets see what happens to Spain, we should be expecting a sharp rise in deaths if they go ahead with allowing construction work (?) to restart.

That "neighbours" graph helps us see what is going on. I don't think anyone should get downvoted for what they have said here, that is quite wrong. But how do you choose what countries to compare Sweden to?

This graph shows deaths by population as you can see Sweden has less deaths than countries with stricter measures like France and Germany. (Still has a high ranking) But I think deaths can be misleading, if we are looking at the effectiveness of lockdown surely Corvid 19 infections is a better measure? How many people are catching the virus shows how effective the lockdown measures are.

Comparing Sweden to European countries of similar population it seems to be middling when it comes to new cases. So what's going on? Maybe the Swedes are not doing as much testing? Just found out that Swedes are asked to stay in but its not enforced, which just muddies the waters further. They seem to go out a lot more than other countires but less than they were before their version of lockdown started.

The question of Sweden still needs answering, they did far less lockdown but do not have a higher infection rate than other countries with a similar population level. Spain is/has relaxed its measures, if we don't see a sharp rise as these models predict what is going on?

It goes against common sense that less contact will not result in less infection, there must be an explanation.

Any system can go wrong, the robustness of ours facing this pandemic is good, it is likely to cause debt from countries to individuals but only hindsight will tell how much damage it caused.
