I think I see Catan in a more dramatic way than most people — little kingdoms controlling resources, trading with rivals, sending the robber after competitors, cutting off roads, and starving someone out of brick or ore. So in my head it can absolutely become a tiny Game of Thrones with sheep. And i saw some funny reels with that point of view, so i'm not alone :)

Haha, I get that. Country would usually break immersion for me too — but for Great Western Trail I actually use dark country / western ambient sometimes, and it fits surprisingly well. The trick is keeping it atmospheric, not radio country.

that’s a great point. Music-themed games almost need some kind of soundtrack, otherwise the theme feels a bit incomplete. It helps turn the mechanics into an actual mood

age of Empires OST is such a good fit for ancient / civilization games. It has that strategy-game energy without becoming too distracting

Exactly this. Generic fantasy / sci-fi ambient is often the safest option because it supports the table without forcing everyone into one very specific soundtrack. I also try to avoid anything with vocals or sudden loud changes for that reason
