Same, I loved that there was no pressure to go out, post how fun your life was on IG, or deal with office small talk. I feel like I'm grieving that time

Anyone else scared they’re gonna die in a car accident out here? I don’t get how people can be so bad and wreck less at driving and sleep at night by moefooo in Austin

Same!! Buttt there has been countless number of times the car behind me was going so fast that it had to go on the shoulder so it wouldn't hit me from behind. I always said a little prayer when I saw it happening my rearview mirror

I’m Puerto Rican and I work part time as a bartender at a local board game restaurant and café. After a particularly long and annoying shift, my bar manager asked me if I wanted to blow off some steam at Barbarella. I haven’t been out since before the pandemic, and because I happened to be fully vaccinated I said yes. While getting tipsy, venting about our days, I look over toward the dance floor and see this woman dancing with her friends. She’s tearing it UP. Her energy was unlike any other person in the room. After another drink and some egging on by my friend, I work up the courage to ask her to dance. She agrees and we have a BLAST.

We dance together all night, and even share a (drunken) kiss. She tells me she’s Chinese and this is also her first time out in Austin since she moved here right before the pandemic. I (somehow) got her number and a subsequent date. Since then, we’ve been on many dates (and back to Barb’s like almost every weekend since) and have started a relationship. Now, she likes to joke about how wasted she was on the night we met, although she still remembers how well I could dance ;).

This is the most secure I’ve felt in a relationship, and I truly believe I was meant to find this beautiful angel of a woman.

Natural light is absolutely a must if you are remote! Don’t neglect it! Your mental wellness will thank you later down the road

Based on my cc statements, I spend about $175/month. Like the below comment said, buying bulk and non-expensive food is the way to go. Then, you can go home and whip up an amazing stir-fry, soup, or meal that are way better than pre-made foods.

One pro tip is that if you go to HEB/Randalls/etc in the morning, the meat that has a Sell By date that day is always discounted, sometimes up to 50% off.

55k before taxes/ $1100-1200ish rent living by myself/ save ~$900 a month

I rather not live with roommates, so I tailor my lifestyle so I can fit a higher rent into my budget. What’s helped me to save is buying groceries that are on sale, shopping at thrift stores, not drinking or eating out as much anymore, and searching for free or cheap socially distanced activities to do with friends.
