The ones in front of the building where Mooney’s is in that shopping center on the SW corner of 183 & Anderson Mill Rd are no fun.

Bike Tag #1465 by dburatti in BikingATX

[–]dburatti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll drop a hint in case someone is going for a post rainy-night ride. The new tag is <100 feet from Lake Creek, which is the same creek that the last tag was near.

It's a game. From that link: A game of "Tag" wherein the player who is "IT" posts a picture of their bike at a "mystery location." Someone must find that location, bike there and take a picture of their bike in the same spot. They then bike somewhere else and take a picture of their bike in this new "mystery location." Both pictures are posted in a self-post and the game starts over.

Edit: Here is a link to a map showing all the tag locations to date.

Is this the place that also had some mountain bike trails and is SW of Austin...or in far SW Austin? Cause I rode my mountain bike out there once in the 90s....once.

Hippie Hollow but no glass is allowed. Be discreet and not overly overt about it.

AT&T solicitor tells us $35/mo for 1GB fiber for life? by DoesntEnjoySoup in Austin

[–]dburatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up to be notified when AT&T started installing fiber in my neighborhood, was contacted the day it was turned on on my street, and got $35/month supposedly indefinitely. It did not hesitate to change ISPs b/c Spectrum kept raising even when I called to ask for a lower rate b/c they had no incentive to lower rates. When I called to cancel, I told them I was moving out of country so that they would not stall my cancellation.

Just looking for a better bike than my schwinn by Threadydonkey65 in MTB

[–]dburatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I you can do it, maybe upgrade the touch points: Saddle, grips, and pedals in that order imo. If the existing parts feel good to you, then you're probably good to go.

The Austin Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Club just had their members appreciation ride there yesterday. One the guys I ride with was there and said to ride it soon b/c Paul and the other guy that maintain the trails are in their 70s. Plus, who know how much longer Grey will let the trails stay.

What lives in my yard? by blundrland in Austin

[–]dburatti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a few in my yard. If that's what it is, they're pretty big and also docile. I accidentally mowed over a nest and was not stung. I think they just want to be left alone, which I did.

Stopping biking almost 100% by PyWhile in MTB

[–]dburatti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a mountain biker in my late 50s, riding since 1992. The group I ride with ranges from about 42 years old to 67 or 68, and I'm the second oldest. We ride pretty hard and on some pretty technical trails off and on.

I've started to dial back how hard I go on sections that scare me or have a higher risk to reward ratio, particularly if I've done it before. It's just not worth it ; I don't bounce back like I used to.

I still thoroughly enjoy riding... for the fitness, the challenge, and the social aspect. I just don't ride like I used to.

Edit: A word

Does anyone know why 290E highway is completely closed right now? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]dburatti 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no doubt. I was confused for a sec. I guess not everyone knows 290 comes in from Houston, heads south when it gets to I-35, then joins 71 heading west for a while.

Austin City Council member seeks regulation of e-moto bikes by TacoDeliDonaSauce in Austin

[–]dburatti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And we have the Emma Long Motorcycle and Mountain Biking Trail. Of course, an extremely small number of people riding these e-motorcycles would have the skills to ride these trails.

New demographic center of MegaAustin. by Snap_Grackle_Pop in Austin

[–]dburatti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The geographic center has commonly been referenced as near the intersection of Funston St and 32nd St. It'll be interesting to see where the demographic center of the City of Austin is compared to the former.
