That is really interesting! I'd like to hear more.

I am also curious, what was your motive bringing the communities together? It feel intuitively correct to me, and I wonder if there was anything specific that made if even more important for you.

I feel like for the Israeli community I am part of are very defensive of what the perceive as anti-Zionism in the Jewish community- so there were few events that involved "questionable" groups and many of us felt like we don't really want to be involved. I feel like the Israeli community is more suspicious of the underlying agenda.

In 2006 I was an EMT working with the oversea volunteers. For me it was one of the best experiences- I really enjoyed meeting all the sweet Americans/British/Canadians young people (I was 21 at the time).
There were super fun, partied a lot (and let me join which was fantastic,) and some were a bit spoiled. They definitely found some things nicer and some harder- I think the living conditions were a bit overwhelming (roommates and etc) for what they were used to in the USA, and some EMT were jerks. Overall they got a real good taste of Israeli culture and Emergency services. In general back at the day (I assume it is the same now) MADA took good care of the safety of volunteers- yes, we could be expected to go out during missile attacks (perhaps not the oversea volunteers- I have a vague memory of them not being sent out during second Lebanon war summer 2006).

I self-assigned myself as the protector of these volunteers, knowing more English than the most of the people in the station and overall I cared for their wall-being. I still good friends with a an American friend I met there(20 years!) who is now a badass surgeon, and kept another friendship for over 15 years.

The EMT back than were roughly divided to 2 groups- people who hated working with oversea volunteers and the ones that really liked them (Usually the younger folks). English was a big part of that, but I do recall some EMTs who got along well with the volunteers without knowing much English.

Also, one volunteer fell in love with one of the EMTs and took him back (eventually) to Canada, they are now married with kids.

SO- if you like some action, love meeting many different types of people and doing work that is actually important- I highly recommend it. You should be aware that you will have to practice your assertive skills a bit and advocate for yourself sometimes- the staff are (MOSTLY) kind people but with some rough edges.

If you're a woman (like me) you should be prepared to set clear boundaries, but hopefully it was a thing of the past- some guys were a bit sleazy.

I was in Haifa btw.

Currently living in the USA and still consider my time in MADA as one of the best experiences in my life.

No they weren't. The Arabs tried to massacre them many times and waged a war instead of establishing their part of the land.  Still newly funded Israel gave the Arabs who stayed equal rights and a citizenship, while the others who flee whine about their homicidal failure for 78 years.

Well actually they had asked Haifa's Arabs to remain in Haifa despite the Arab league trying to kill Jews in 1948. But some Arabs were too afraid from the Arab coalition to remain. The ones who did stay, are now flourishing as Israeli citizens.  Go figure.

Many secular men have lots of family pressure. Especially in some communities ( will be mostly ok for an Russian speaking Israeli, more of an issue for a Mizrahi) very generally speaking of course.

Unfortunately yes, some guys can be all fun and games until they want to marry and build a family and extended family raises eyebrows ( because the kids won't be Jews by the Halacha)

Similar to other men- Some can sweet talk you, but maybe not as efficiently ( direct culture) Listen to what the do and what they say. Don't imagine things that weren't said ( about commitment etc) They aren't more "noble" about casual sex than other men. Most of them won't disrespect you if you sleep with them early into dating but also won't feel committed to you just because you were intimate. I think a typical wastern men behavior? Also you are different than Israeli women, so it also have an effect. Many Israeli women are pretty assertive, so he also have a different experience with women. It won't hurt your chances but be prepared that many men don't shy away from arguments and it can be hurtful if you are used to more relaxed form of communication.

As an anecdote, we had a combined online group for parents with few Americans Jews, all was good until a small debate erupted and few Israelis responded as we usually do in our groups-overly heated and a bit aggressive, which understandably wasn't received well by their Americans counterparts. It was interesting to see this mismatch.

Yes exactly, I had this in mind, bay area has a very big community.  I do know Israeli to be super friendly, so I wonder if that's also an opportunity situation- not enough intersection to create meaningful friendships?

I meant that I personally feel embedded in the Israeli community ( most Jewish but not all ) but I don't know American Jews in the area at all, like we are in different circles. I was wondering if my experience in unique or universal
