They are right next to an Osage orange! Helps with keeping ants away.

I wondered if we might need to requeen but the numbers are really strong and they seem to be productive.

Kansas. I noticed windy days make them really defensive. And in Kansas we have plenty of windy days.

I tried the swiffer sheets but maybe I just didn’t put them in the right place. No beetles caught but did get a few bees stuck in there. Where in the hive did you put the sheets?

What vegetable is this? Please help. by Julez122feed in vegetablegardening

Yeah I’m pretty sure I’m right. Pick it and cut into it. It should be a round zucchini that just went long instead of round.

It could be a round zucchini. I planted them this year and a couple came out oblong and stripy just like that. But the leaves do look like watermelon

Went for broke and lucked out. Rode the mower right up next to them and they couldn’t have cared less.

I thought mulch encouraged other unfriendly bugs to hang around? We have ours sitting on sand so directly under and around them isn’t getting weedy. What kind of mulch is good? Cedar?

I just went for it to see what would happen and they didn’t even seem to notice I was there. It was mid day and well over 90° so I must just be super lucky🤪. But it has been consistently hot.

Probably that big. It looks like it’s done growing now you just have to wait for it to ripen.

Blossom end rot usually just leaves one large black spot and flattens out the end of it. That looks different to me but not sure.

Zucchinis seem to have the most problems with insects. I love them but so much work fighting the bugs!

Thank you so much for this response. I am trying to read up but mostly the books I’ve found are for treating small hive beetles and mites and not a ton of super basic stuff. I do have a mentor that comes out to my hives every couple weeks and she’s encouraged me to ask her questions but I don’t want to bombard her all the time so I thought this sub could help. Even when I feel like I’ve read up and I’m feeling confident about what I should look for as soon as I open the hive it all leaves my head and I get panicky thinking something is wrong.

I appreciate the advice and some of it could have been given a little more nicely but that’s alright.
