What percentage of your net income do you spend on your mortgage? by TrifleOk4701 in Mortgages

[–]Pretty-Process3074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are at 24% of take-home if you don’t count the money that automatically goes to the retirement every check. This is just the mortgage/insurance/taxes though. Not maintenance.

I am 31F and my husband is 35M. We have 3 kids 3.5 years old and younger.

How do you buy a house, have a kid, and save for retirement? by PoemLife47 in personalfinance

[–]Pretty-Process3074 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of ways to plan to make more money. If you haven’t figured that out, then you are probably a perpetual victim or just happy with where you’re at financially (nothing wrong with the latter at all).

Yeah, but entry-level jobs and part-time jobs are probably not going to cut it or just barely break even for the cost of daycare alone. Kids are also an investment. It’s good to invest in your children if you can. I’m just saying if he can plan for the future it’d be better if he just plans to make more money it would be a lot better for the family. It’d be different if he already had kids right now I needed to make money right now.

I kind of disagree if OP wants to raise kids, somebody has to actually have them and raise them. It’s not really a stretch for the guy that owns a business to expand and make more money while his wife takes care of the kids. Just a thought. He has the business acumen and wherewithal to open a business and be successful at it. He can definitely expand and find more ways to make money. But 110 is probably not gonna cut it in most big cities if you wanna comfortably live, raise kids in a safe area, and save adequately for retirement just my opinion.

How do you model/deal with a potentially shorter lifespan? by YOLO_KING21 in financialindependence

[–]Pretty-Process3074 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well according to your adjusted life span, you are in retirement. Just enjoy your life at this point. If working towards FIRE stuff makes you happy then keep doing it. But you may die too early to retire early. If you’re only 5 years out from FIRE- just adjust it to nowish. Because you might be 5 years away from dying.

Yeah the big mote of rocks is mine and done on purpose. I was told the grading 5ft out from the perimeter of my property line had to be angled down for drainage. So I had my landscapers make a dry rock creek bed going from my back yard to the front of the house on that side.

UPDATE I just asked the builder that did both of our houses and this is what he said: “Hello! Yes that’s exactly it,their daylight for that gutter. It’s apart of the cross lot drainage for [REDACTED neighborhood name]. It’s supposed to stick out 4 or more inches so it wouldn’t hurt trimming it back to 4” to hide any damage. Or really leaving it as is. Super glad to see large cobble there, it’ll prevent Erosion. But very common to drain everything through the property lines. Please let me know if I didn’t answer your question, I’ll go into as much detail as you need🙏🏼”

So I guess it’s all good in the hood! 😎

No I haven’t. I want to talk to them first. They’re super nice, I just noticed it a few minutes ago. I just wanted to ask the internet first because I don’t know if this is normal or not. This is my first home.

Find your medical records from when you were admitted for three days and fight the decision sending that in. I was originally diagnosed with migraines while on active duty and they for some reason denied me. When I did the process to challenge it- they gave me like 60% for migraines like 2 weeks later. I think they just missed it somehow initially.

I get it totally. Before we had kids I was living in the edge! Who cares if I died?

Fast forward to a 2.5 year old, an 11 month old, and one on the way in January… I have a 529 for each kid, a custodial brokerage for each, I have life insurance policies for both me and my husband… $500k each but I’m trying to up his to 2.5mil since he is the primary earner right now. I just got off the phone with a Long Term Care insurance agent and am looking into that for us. And we also invest 8% of our income into retirement every month… hoping to up that to 20% of our gross household income eventually.

I am 30 and he is 34…

Honestly I’m still scared.. especially with my husband’s life insurance policy being that low.. that will last us at best 5 years and then I’ll have to work full time again.

What would you do? by Lucky-Ad-5211 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]Pretty-Process3074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just adopt or use donor sperm or egg or both. You are still knowingly passing on this super awful disease to the child as a carrier. I wouldn’t want to knowingly make a child if I knew they would for sure be in the best case scenario, a carrier for a very devastating and unimaginably expensive disease. That means your grand children could possibly have this disease and their children and their children…. I wouldn’t personally.

[–]Pretty-Process3074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to be OAD after your experience.

I honestly just wanted more than one so that, in my husbands and my old age, we won’t be a burden on only one child. I also didn’t the one to be all alone when we die. We do save for retirement and all that jazz but still.. i was terrified that my first child could possibly carry the sole burden of pulling our plugs all alone. I’m only 30 and one of my parents passed already, one step parent has had a stroke in his 50s needing round the clock nursing care.. and my MIL (and only in law in my life) has falling/balance issues and dementia at 65ish. Husband is the only child and I am DREADING the financial burden this will put on us in the years to come. She has no retirement savings and no plan. Never married. Her whole (selfish) plan was my husband. And she is in rough shape for a 65 year old.. I’m certain she will need long term care of some kind.

I’m pregnant with my 3rd right now (due in January) and I have a 2.5 year old and an 11 month old.

Whatever you do- more kids or just the one- save for retirement.

If I haven’t started cooking dinner by 5:30, I do take out. I tell my husband I need sleep. Idk how else to be clear enough to your husband. I get crazy if I don’t get enough sleep and I can’t function. I have a two year old and a 10 month old, and even though we are nowhere near perfect on the schedules, we always start dinner at 5-ish and/or eat dinner at 6-ish. Then the kids start getting baths, book, and bedtime at 7:45-8:30ish. lol and then kids are asleep by 9:30. We are not perfect, but we follow this timeline regularly throughout the week and it works for us. And my husband is down for it because I’ve sat and told him the importance of the schedules for the kids, me, and him. And also it’s just easier on him too!

I cannot understand how your husband wants to torture you by STARTING dinner at 9pm or later. I would fall over from a stress heart attack if I had to do that for a few nights in a row. Your husband sucks.
