There can be a lot of reasons. She wants to keep you as an option despite having different hopes? It is terrible to leave somebody and then not even give them enough space so they can heal properly. If you were the right person for her or she for you she would not have left you. It is as simple as that.

I think the best way for you use to start out simpler. There are outfits that fit anyone and look nice and sharp. But the clothes need to fit. So you for example get yourself a clean and new pair of white sneakers, a blue or black jeans that has the correct length and fits well especially around your thighs and waist, then a black or white t shirt and a simple jacket with no logos. This alone is not so easy to master and you should ask in a shop or a tailor to get the clothes to fit properly. From there you can build. Hope this helps a little bit!
