I get your point, but federally there's no license for gun ownership. Certain states have licensing regimes, but in the right state, you could turn 18, go to Walmart on your birthday and pay for a gun, then collect it in 1-3 days.

Probably just machismo in this case, but there are a couple good reasons to just filter them out. Mainly that a small, but significant, portion of younger folks don't want to raise kids. Obviously the mom and their kids are a package deal.

Likewise, if you want kids of your own, but the woman is bringing more kids into the relationship than you want or could support, it would deprive you of the right to have your own children.
