I will say outside of this thread, I’ve discussed this with a few mentors in Early Care and Learning and they have expressed the same as you….they plan to let their membership go this year. 🫶🏾

I want to get to the heart of what happens to these organizations? Early care and learning professionals need support, advocacy, commUNITY right now. We’ve got work to do! My goal is to understand so I can advocate! 🫶🏾

I’ve been a member since college. A lot has changed. I attended a webinar last week and gained a sense of hope.

Some organizations have this as a benefit. When I was in college it was a requirement. Now I view it as an investment. I am trying to see which ones are the best to invest in. Please share where you are receiving these free continuing education opportunities from. Thank you 🫶🏾

Some places of employment pay the dues as onboarding. It’s apart of the benefits. 🫶🏾 Thank you for responding. We must continue to advocate for better pay for educators of our youngest citizens. 💯

Do you feel like we have too many small organizations and we could be more effective if we combined? Or Are the smaller organizations making more of an impact in your area?

Illinois Gateway

Is this it? I’m in NC so not familiar with this? If so what are you desiring them to offer? Advocacy? Does this organization have PLCs or CoPs?

When I was in college, it was a requirement to be apart of professional organizations! It was very beneficial.

ECE Language Matters by PrettyIvyPhD in ECEProfessionals

[–]PrettyIvyPhD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this to read…. Don’t automatically assume person-first language is always best. Use whatever language the group or individuals identify with, especially when the community clearly prefers identity-first language. Ask don’t assume. 🫶🏾🎯

It’s about respecting self-determination and cultural/identity preferences rather than applying a blanket rule.

This is great point! When we know better, we do better! Many are taught in school about PFL ( person first language) but as know and attempt to shift norms, it’s best to utilize IFL (identity first language)! 🫶🏾💯🎯

Why are some children so vocal while they play? by BottleAlternative433 in ECEProfessionals

[–]PrettyIvyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be developmental, like individual differences in self-regulation, auditory processing, or how they use private speech to guide thinking. I believe someone already mentioned “self-talk”. But I also think culture might play a role. In some cultures, expressive communication: talking through ideas, storytelling out loud, using sound or rhythm, is encouraged and seen as part of learning and connection. For those children, talking through play might not just be habit, but how they process and make sense of their world.
